For the ladies (period question)

So who gets loose stools and increase stools during and before their periods?

I know ladies who don’t have IBD also get this but it just makes me crazy bc I worry that it’s my Uc.

I am day 2 of my period. Had diarreah this morning and I know it’ll happen again today.

Lots of friends seem to get it though and it is a little pattern for me.

I’m on nightly enemas and doing well. It just this period blip that scared me and makes me quite anxious. I find when I have bad cramps, those are the months I get looser stools and an increase number.

I guess I’m hoping it’s normal. I don’t think it’s a flare up but more like just hormones causing this to happen monthly. I’ve searched online and it does seem like a complaint from many women who don’t have ibd.

Exactly. Last month wasn’t too bad this month, bad cramps pre period and now day 1 and day 2 I’ve had 2 BMs instead of my usual 1 and this morning the second was diarreah. The only helpful thing for me when I get anxious is that this happens usually every month and that it happens to lots of women. It seems common.

I guess with uc it is hard not to second guess what is what. That’s where I have a hard time anxiety wise. It’s scary to me to have an increase in BMs and looser stools.

This happens to me too, it can totally freak me out as the symptoms and cramps can be very similar to an oncoming flare. I think it's totally normal though, definitely has to do with the hormones. Literally feels like my body is unleashing a signal to push everything in my uterus, and by extension my bowels, down and out! My bowels usually go back to normal as my period is ending.

Agree. I’ve done a little reading on it and apparently the hormones that are responsible for shedding uterus lining also get into the bowels and then send the contractions to shed the lining of the bowels... loose stool and more diarreah.

My husband reminds me every month or so when this happens that it happens almost each month. Still makes me anxious every month! When will I learn?

It happens every month with me too, I do believe there is a relationship between hormones changing and UC. All my flares were during my menses, my first flare was during my pregnancy, I was dignosed with UC right after delivering my baby. also my migraines headache are hormones related.

for me it’s normal to have cramps and diarrhea during periods, so I don’t worry about it.
I asked my Primary doctor about it , she said it’s normal.

I know some are on birth control to level out the wild hormone swings that happen throughout your natural cycle. Those hormones certainly can affect your UC symptoms and make them swing around too.
