Flare-up, need suggestions other than Prednisone-Please

I really enjoy this forum, it’s very informative. The day after my remicade infusion, Jan. 15th, I started to have flare up symptoms. First mucus when I go to bathroom, then tummy cramping on left side and now bloody stools along with mucus. I called my Doctor after a week and she recommended prednisone and stool tests. I’m not a fan of just instantly taking prednisone. My bowel movements are only once a day. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to heal without steroids? My next Remicade infusion is February 25th and I’m trying to hang on til then. Thank you in advance for any input.

I definitely think the suggestion of rectal meds is a good one. I would also do the stool tests, it's possible you've got something else going on that requires treatment. Another option might be the addition or imuran or 6mp with your remicade, or uceris instead of pred, if you really need some sort of steroid. I would start with the stool tests and the rectal meds and see how you do. Of course, without a scope you do not know the involvement, and rectals treat a limited area.

I have experience of turmeric doing nothing. But it's very cheap if you want to try (apparently it's absorbed best when taken with oil and pepper, preferably with a meal.

I wouldn't instantly take prednisone for the type of symptoms you are describing. Ditto get a stool test, it could be c diff which is an infection and that must be ruled out. First, since your symptoms are mild, treat with mild medications: mesalamine oral (asacol/lialda/pentasa) and/or rectal-route (mesalamine enemas, foams, or suppositories). Second, go to 90% topical steroids: entocort EC/uceris, budesonide foam/enema/suppository. Third, go to prednisone if the sky starts falling and the bloody dam start opening up of a severe flareup.
