Low platelets and WBC

Anyone have you routine blood work come back and show this? I am scheduled to see my GI on Friday so he had me do my blood work last week. Today I get a call that my platelets and WBC are low and to follow up with my primary. I was able to schedule an appointment but not for a few days. I am just wondering if this is normal for those of us with UC?

No, I feel fine and I am not currently in a flare. So weird.

No bleeding gums, easy bruising, red or purple rash on lower legs?

Did they say how low your counts were?

I do bruise easy but that's it out of the symptoms. Normal range was above 150,000 and mine were 132,000 so not terribly low thankfully. Just never had them be low before so not sure what's up.

I agree. Have your primary care doc re-do the tests. It only needs more investigation if they come back low again.

Common with thiopurines (azathioprine, imuran, or 6mp), however I do not see those listed in your signature. Is your signature up-to-date on your current meds and dosages?

Rare, but those numbers can tank with mesalamines as well. Known as blood abnormalities, in the mesalamine package insert.

As always, make sure it isn't a non-UC-related thing, as we can have other things cause it beyond UC.

I notice that you are taking Curcumin - which acts as a blood thinner - check with your primary care doctor to make sure there are no issues. Some supplements can be just as potent as prescribed medications.
