Burli i've been in a 12 step program for 21 years.I help people you have anxiety/depression problems,i know people who are over medicated. All some DRs know is fixing things with a prescription pad, that's how they were taught.I know many people who came into 12 step programs that were over medicated that are on 50% less meds now because of the power of the program. Also there are people who go to therapy who only tell the therepist what they want the therapist to hear, not good.I AM 100% honest with my life,i have no problem talking to a fellow 12 step member about my life or talking to a medical PRO about my life and how to make it better with prayer, meditation, healing masses, meds etc etc etc. Also be careful diagnosing what's wrong with you,i used to play DR,i let trained people do that now.I hope the best for you and your friend-HAPPY HOLIDAYS
I need to apologize to you, 3timechamp. I wrote in this thread, "So instead of taking the time, money and stigma of seeing a therapist (whatever that officially is) and a psychiatrist? Why not just get your family doctor to prescribe a non-addictive anti-anxiety drug for stress."
I likely said that because my regular physician had just (around the time of this thread) asked me if I wanted Prozac (there was a lot of negativity about
too many kids on that instead of outside playing when I was first raining my kids in the 90's. He said, "because you are wound tight" (70+ mg prednisone, at the time, will do that).
Turns out my company offered us a psychologist in order to increase productivity. I used that lady for more than work; she really helped me through tough times. She listened to each problem and offered simple, straight forward solutions. And that over-medicated friend is much better now. Therapy isn't like the Bob Newhart Show after all. lol
