I have received good news from the GI and lab reports. The only localized inflammation was my lower left side colon and rectum, biopsy shows very mild inflammation. Next scope in 3 years. Oh and significant internal hemmies. I may have them treated.
They didn’t say whether I’m in remission or what type of UC it is but I’m thrilled.
I will continue remicade, and I thank God, and swear by coconut manna with oil too, daily. Not brave enough to try popcorn 😯

Inflammation doesnt equal remission. Since your inflammation seems to be up into the sigmoid, I suggest using retention enemas.
What do you mean what type of UC?

You could consider asking your GI to send you to an anorectal specialist and see about treating the hemmies if they are as you stated (since your GI didn't offer).

If your symptoms are minimal, then I would say you are in remission. I agree that a mesalamine enema may be a good idea to get rid of any residual inflammation and to keep you in remission. Even a few times a week at bedtime may be enough.
Personally I avoid popcorn like the plague. It bothers me every time I eat it.

I will take you advise for an anorectal specialist, I think he was leaving this up yo me, though I’m thinking it’s totally necessary! The GI never mentioned enemas, just continuing my remicade so I’ll ask about that as well.
By type of UC I mean pancolitis, proctitis, etc. I will need to ask. I don’t like not knowing.
I see you take probiotics, I’ve been on the fence trying vsl #3 and a few others. Do you recommend them, the type you take?

Rectal enemas: yes, you could try these. Popcorn: noooooo. But maybe once in full remission you can (if you want to take the chance). I avoid it though and enjoy the puffed corn that comes in a bag by Okie Dokie.

I’m always hopeful for remission!! My GI has not recommended enemas so I’ll call and ask! This disease is hard on us, Reminds us how fragile we are and keep us humble!!
Yeah I’m steering away from beloved popcorn, I find almonds give me gas so I’m minimizing those in my diet.
Do you believe probiotics are helping? Seems I’m asking everyone this question ☺️

I personally haven't noticed any real solid link between probiotics and symptom reduction, except for maybe the florastor I was taking when I was trying to recover from C-diff. For me, greatly limiting carbs has reduced my symptoms to virtually nothing. It will be interesting to see the results of my next colonoscopy in November of this year. Hopefully the scope looks as good as I feel

Faithful....I've used probiotics since maybe mid to late '90s of various brands.

I started using a reuteri included probiotic since around 2003, and the UFCC since before that. It's been the constant, and one with reuteri (primadophilus Reuteri) was discontined in Canada and have used the Genuine Health for a few years.

I was using both at bedtime, but I am alternating nights for each and double every so often.

My scopes are pretty benign over the past 10 years...and I have used 5ASA oral and rectal for over 30 years.

Do you have copies of all your scope pathology reports?

FYI-- Proctofoam HC (Rx needed) can be very helpful with shrinking internal hemmies. Also be careful to avoid spicy foods & fibrous items (nuts, seeds) if you're hurting there. / Old Hat (38 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Quincy, I’m happy to hear you’re doing well and scopes have been good!! Are you in Canada?
I don’t have copies but I could get them. No active inflammation in the colon in the higher reach. My next scope will be in 3 years to check for dysplasia.
I’m seriously considering probiotics, even though I feel good, as the gut is the second brain and any imbalance affects our whole well being.

Yes, in Canada.

Your scope results will give you an idea as to how far up yiu have inflammation. Always best to have copies of ALL test results just because... you have the info, can create questions regarding results, research and of course...sharing 😊

I will always use probiotics....

Quincy, yes, I agree. My scope showed no inflammation higher tract, just a bit of mild area left wide near the rectum.
Tomorrow I’m having my significant hemmies treated, not sure what that will be as the doc will make the decision upon review. I’m staying positive!! 👍🏻
