Trouble Getting Rowasa Through Insurance

Has anyone encountered problems finding brand Rowasa through their pharmacy? The pharmacies are saying they have an OTC generic, which insurance won't pay for.

I never used the brand name. I used the generic for the brand name and insurance covered it just like any other generic medication. Are you saying insurance would cover the brand name but not the generic? That would be unusual.

Unless it's something very new there isn't an OTC generic mesalamine enema -- you need a presciption and can't buy it over the counter

What's the brandname, perrigo? I prefer the ani generics.

I would check several of your local brick-and-mortar pharmacies, and also the preferred mail-order pharmacy of you insurance. Generally those mail-order pharmacies have a broader reach of suppliers than the local stores do.

I'd use the NDC codes that pharmacies use, to better find it. Here's the one for perrigo: NDC Code(s): 45802-098-28, 45802-098-46, 45802-098-51

Finally got to the bottom of it--no pun intended.

MESALAMINE 4 G/60 ML ENEMA KIT is not covered, and it includes cleansing wipes.
