Cortiment & Entocort

I had a sigmoidoscopy today. The GI told me I have active colitis and my inflammation is mainly in the lower part of my colon and rectum. He prescribed me Cortiment 9mg tablets for 8 weeks and Entocort for 2 weeks. He’s also getting Stelara lined up for me but I probably won’t get that for at least 2-3 weeks (after being enrolled and getting an available appointment). I’m worried because this flare is quite bad (waking up every 2 hours, blood and diarrhea). I’ve only been on Prednisone so I’m not familiar with how effective Cortiment and Entocort are compared to Prednisone.

Cortiment and entocort are both variants of budesonide, which is weaker than prednisone. Entocort is designed to be released in the small intestine (perhaps also the right side of the colon?), hence is more usually prescribed for crohns than colitis, while cortiment is designed to be released in the colon. Tbh I'm not sure what the dr was thinking...

I forgot to mention that the Entocort is in enema form. Makes sense that he would prescribe me oral and rectal to tackle both ends, but it doesn’t make sense that he prescribed me something weaker than Prednisone.

I’ve been on Prednisone 3 times since the end of 2018 so I’m assuming he wanted something safer. Thank you for your input!

I had pretty bad symptoms and Uceris/budesonide has gotten rid of them for me. I hope it works for you as well. It's WAY safer than prednisone. Give it a week or two to work though. It doesn't work as fast as pred.

Last time I was on 40mg of prednisone and my body wasn’t responding to it. I’m hoping that the Cortiment/Entocort will work better since I haven’t been on it.

Ugh I’m so annoyed! I was only able to hold the enema in for an hour. Not sure how I’m supposed to get better if I can’t hold it in!

Even holding for 15 minutes will have some benefit...just keep trying...hopefully the retention time will increase

I did notice that I had less cramping last night. I didn’t have the urge to go for 7 hours, which is an improvement from every 2 hours!

Retaining an enema for an hour while flaring is great. I usually can't retain them at all while flaring. I think even holding it in for 30 minutes helps.

Thanks for the positive encouragement Hoping tonight will be a little longer.
