I know everyone says you shouldn't be on PPIs long term, but I have been on them for a few years. First was omeprazole for a year or so and then I tried to taper off of them and got worse and changed to Dexilant. At the beginning of this year I started taking that every other day and was doing well until March and now I am back to every day.
My problem is silent acid reflux. I get no heartburn or any other symptoms but it causes a horrible cough when I don't take the PPI. Between the refux cough and now season allergies ... well I am coughing a LOT. I am so glad I am working from home because I doubt that they would allow me to be in the office with this cough right now. Everyone would be freaking out.
I read all the dangers of long term use of the PPIs but I can't live with this cough so see no other choice but to risk it. I have this on my list of things to discuss with my doc the next time I see him
