This website gets updated every few days. An international effort to record all reported cases of ibd with coronavirus.
Approx 180 patients in there at the moment, if my arithmetic is correct....
The biggest risk factors for death appear to be MTX, prednisone, severe inflammation, being over 80 and being male. The last 2 are presumably not related to having ibd. Also a higher death rate for colitis than crohn's, although we're still dealing with small numbers so that may change.

I read an article earlier today that compared Covid-19 to the 1918 Spanish flu. It also killed by creating a cytokine storm that damaged the lungs. In other words, your own immune system killed you and not the virus.
That would seem to indicate that taking a biologic or even imuran/6MP might not be such a bad thing as it relates to this pandemic.

I know of someone in the hospital with Covid-19 right now who has been given imuran. I thought it was odd, given how slowly the drug treats UC, but I don’t know what the dose is that she has been given. She just finished chemo and had a pacemaker installed.

My own theory on this is yes, it is ARDS Acute respiratory distress syndrome which puts you on a ventilator.

The cytokine storm gives you ARDS.

Vitamin D, fish oil. Check Japan death rates if they are not fudging them.
Also watch Finland and possibly other nordic countries where they eat a lot of fatty fish and take cod liver oil.
The tannic acid in black tea may help to kill the virus, it also dies at Ph>8..
Been researching this for weeks. I do know it also can attack the gut, heart,lungs,kidneys but that
may be cytokines. Don't know.
Also been trying to figure out what it is about kids immune system that seems to cause only mild
disease. Guess what the doc's have no real idea, but they have some guesses.

They updated the website today - one of the mtx fatalities has been removed (not sure why? ) so at this stage it looks like the biggest risk factor in terms of medication is being on steroids.

My wife has been told to avoid prescribing steroids at all costs. Apparently that is a well known risk factor for everyone, not just U.C.'ers.

So this is interesting. I think we're seeing evidence that stelara is protective against coronavirus. 36 reported cases and of those, only one hospitalization.

Disaster in Phoenix. My wife tells me that there are 36 new positive cases in one nursing home. This could spread like wild-fire. So many nursing homes in AZ because people like to retire here.

This isn't strictly IBD-related, but it was such an interesting article I wanted to share it. It seems like COVID-19 may not be just a respiratory illness but also a vascular one, which would explain a lot of the disparate symptoms.
