Blood but no urgency, and well formed stool?

I've had mild UC for about 8 years now. I rarely get flareups, maybe once every 4 years for about a month. This year, I got a flareup that lasted 2 months in February/March and then went on prednisone and got back into remission.

Recently for the past week, every time I wipe there's very bright red blood. I don't believe it's hemorrhoids because it fills up the entire issue when I wipe.

My stool is very well formed though and solid each time. There's also no urgency.

I'm really worried, I have no idea what's going on. Any ideas? Has this ever happened to anyone with UC?

I think that after the flare your mucus is still very fragile and this is the reason for bleeding and also blood is the last to go away. If your stool is formed and no urgency, this means, imo, that inflammation is practically gone so you shouldn't worry

Well that flare was months ago though. After the flare, I had no blood. Why would blood all of a sudden come back after months of no symptoms/urgency?

I think it's because uc is just unpredictable. Maybe something minor has come up meanwhile and it needs a quick fix, I think that other symptoms suggest almost full remission smile

when was the last time you took pred ?

were you or are you using any other uc meds ?

Hi just new to this post now and it sounds very similar to what I’m experiencing now.

Sugarcrave any symptoms after this happened? Were/are you on any maintenance meds after stopping pred?

There are three parts of a flare.

Mucosal inflammation and damage, malabsorption, fast transit time.

These three things can all heal at the same time or at different times. So you get good absorption back, reduced transit time, but the mucosal damage is still there. So you get the pain of formed stools traveling through a freshly scarred bowel.

Or maybe there's no blood, but stool is still liquid because malabsorption is still in play.

I'd say if your stools are solid then you're on the right track. At least you're absorbing nutrition, which will help your body to heal. You may want to stick to reduced fiber for a while. UC usually starts from the rectum and then moves up, so your hard stools are probably passing through the very last part that needs to heal.

Did you transition to any maintenance med after tapering off Prednisone? If you don't feel anal discomfort like swelling, pinching, or burning aches, and you're not on another Rx med the bleeding could be another flare starting instead of hemorrhoid(s). Or, if you've started another Rx med, it may not be helping so that your flare resumes. A further question would concern the extent of your inflammation when doctor prescribed Prednisone. / Old Hat (40 yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)
