Anyone have center back pain between the shoulder blades with costocondritis? Trying to figure out why if someone presses on my back at all it hurts on my heart or center chest on the front. Not sure if this is the typical costrocondritis or something new.

Horrible Healthcare in my area so trying to find out what tests I might need, i read is could be pericarditis too but I just don't know.

I have been in a flair for months now seems no end in sight for this one.

I've only ever had chest pain with costochondritis which in my case was probably caused by a severe undiagnosed vitamin D deficiency (now sorted).

Did the pain come on suddenly or have you had it for a while?

No it didn't come on suddenly. It happens all the time but this time seems to be worse with the pressure or someone is rubbing my back I can feel the pain in my chest... does your costochondritis pain feel like stabbing or dull ache or what? It seems like it starts out for me as heart pain in like a triangle shape around my breastbone then starts to get tender to touch. The actual heart pain feels like someone stabbing with every heartbeat. But after that happens for a while I'll get that bruise feeling to touch which I'm thinking is the costochondritis. They put me on Verapamil and that took away a lot of the hard pains I was having but I still now have this Center chest triangle that feels bruised to touch and the pains in my chest when someone presses on my back between my shoulder blades. So difficult to discern whether it's a slipped disc, cardiac,or all Costcochondritis.

Costochondritis is inflammation of the cartilage that connects the rib to the sternum. Typically a person has pain on the left side of the breastbone, plus rib pain on that side & the pain can be sharop aching or a pressure like pain. Some people think they are having a heart attack. The pain worsens when you take a deep breath or cough, this info is from the Mayo Clinic's website. I have seen this particulary in the heart forum, someone shows up in ER thinking it's a heart attack & turns out it's constochondritis. I've seen comments in another forum here discuss this several times & everyone said using a heatng pad on their chest for 20 minutes really helped, so you might want to try that.

Many, many years ago I started having a real problem with my neck. I had terrible pain between my shoulder blades & if I leaned forward a little the pain shot forward to my chest, I thought I was having a heart attack at first. My dr put me on muscle relaxers, I went for massages & also used a moist heating pad.

Just my 2 cents, I'm not thinking costochondritis, I've never heard of anyone having the pain pattern that you are describing. Regardless, since you are having to do this alone, try a moist heating pad & try coldpacks too.

I remember the costochondritis I had was excruciating and in the upper rib area in the middle. I had stabbing pains and thought it was something more serious. As I said, I cleared it up by treating a vit D deficiency.

I'm glad to hear it isn't shoulder pain that has come on suddenly as I've just been reading up on the medication I'm about to switch to (Xeljanz) and shoulder pain or upper back pain is something I need to look out for due to increased risk of blood clot. I'm no expert but I imagine in this situation there'd be sudden pain and breathing difficulty,
