Currently in Ed. They think I have pancreatitis. I have no gallbladder and don’t drink so they confused as to the cause? Anyone else had this

Sorry you need ED attention & hope they can DX your problem quickly. Were you taking any other med besides the Pentasa enemas? / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

When I was first flaring and went to the hospital my amylase or lipase (sorry don’t recall now which it was) was 6x normal so they admitted my for pancreatitis. But I had no upper left pain so I knew they were wrong. Apparently a severe flare can throw off your pancreas numbers.

But I know you said you were having upper left sided pain so might not be the case for you. Just thought I’d mention it as a possibility with high pancreatic numbers.

Flower gal I know you’re right and I keep telling them it’s my IBD but they says not as high as it is. 3x normal range. They’re saying it’s the Pentasa causing it. Hopefully they can speak to a specialist tomorrow. I only use the Pentasa. And nexium

Does Pentasa absorb systemically. Could the enemas be causing this

I don’t know if medications can cause it. When my numbers were sky high I was newly diagnosed and not yet on any medications

You definitely need imaging done...you might have a blockage?

My CT scan showed no inflammation in the rectum. This is something I wanted to add on the back of my original post in regards to hydration affecting my flares. I’ve been given 7litres of fluid with the pancreatitis. I came in with liquid direah and blood. I’m now having formed stools no blood. No one will convince me of the crucial role hydration plays with my IBD

I had a lipase of 14000 from Balsalside Disodium. My GI had me try enemas later as he said they are only about 10% systemic. I used them for about a week and a half, and quit because I started having pancreatitis pain again. Scared me. I had been off of them for 4 days when they checked my lipase, and it had returned to normal already.
