Sigh! What are your feelings about the COVID vaccine?

I know that Pfizer has applied for full FDA approval of their vaccine. I assume the others will as well if they haven't already. I am glad they were approved under emergency use authorization otherwise we would still be waiting for vaccines. It takes a long time to get full FDA approval on anything -- usually a couple years. The use of vaccines has dramatically reduced the number of infections, hospitalizations and death. Most of the people now being hospitalized are those who are not vaccinated.

Van, I would be interested in seeing the data on all the adverse side effects mentioned. I would also like to see how those side effects compare to other vaccines that have been around for years. Do you have a link for that info? I tried google and got to website that didn't seem user friendly and couldn't find the info about the Covid vaccines.

Once the final numbers are compiled for 2020 we will see how inflated the number of Covid deaths are. I suspect what we will see is that the total number of deaths will far exceed the expected increase from Covid based on historical death rates. I think the numbers of Covid deaths are vastly undercounted. We have all heard the stories about someone dying in a traffic accident and it being listed as a Covid death -- we usually hear that from someone who knows someone who's cousin's brother said it happened to their friend. Weirdly, I had 2 different completely unrelated people tell me virtually the exact same story that came from someone they trusted. It was nearly word for word the same story. These were people who do not know each other and other than me have no friends or family in common. I suspect the story originated on social media.

As far as IBD people saying they are flaring because of the vaccine -- in this forum I haven't seen a big increase in the number of people who are are flaring now post vaccine as opposed to how many people were flaring before we had the vaccines. I'm not ruling out a vaccine induced flare in some people. But how does anyone really know? Almost everyone flares eventually with IBD -- even those who were in remission for years. We always try to blame the flare on something -- stress, bad diet, colon prep, antibiotics -- I have done the same. Now vaccines are added to the list. Bottom line is that there are flares with this disease and usually there is no real "cause" -- it just happens because we have an autoimmune disease.

Like some others have said, I felt like I won the lottery when I was able to get my first appt for the Pfizer vaccine. I still feel lucky even though I have to be careful because I don't have a lot of antibodies due to Remicade. BUT I do have SOME antibodies so that is far better than no antibodies.

This is not supposed to be a political forum, Faithmac. Your beloved FL governor is not the innocent angel, either, though, I must say. Plus Washington & New York states were the 1st to experience COVID-19 victims' need for critical care, when most of the world was still "in the dark" RE transmission of the totally new virus, etc. So I wish you & a couple others posting here would quit criticizing NY, NJ, & MA governors, who had to make quick critical decisions w/o much reliable, salient information nor caring, well-organized national leadership. Contrast that situation with handling of Ebola virus a few yrs earlier!!!!! / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

Michele, I hope that wasn't directed at me. I was just wanting to point out the rising numbers of cases. The rises are alarming. Previously it took Florida 2 weeks to double the number of new cases. Now they nearly doubled it in 1 week. It's about to exponentially explode. It's a very dangerous situation.
