Getting certain medications without a prescription?

Hey all,

I was able to get my hands on vancomycin a while back and it seemed to significantly improve my UC despite being negative for C Diff.

I'd like to try it again, but unfortunately I can't get my hands on it now.

Are there ways to get medications like that without a prescription?

I don't know of any. I went into the longest remission I've ever had after taking vanco for c diff.

thanks Sara - but just to confirm, you were C Diff positive originally, right?

Yes. I also had other issues (campylobacter that reoccured for months), so I was on other antibiotics as well for a few months. But after all that, I was in remission for 1.5 years. Good luck! I hate that we can't access certain medications that could help us.

Not sure where you are located but in the U.S. I believe it's illegal to get prescription meds without a prescription so you would have to find a black market. But then you wouldn't be sure you are getting what you think you are.

Won't your doc give you a script as an experiment?

CC is correct about the US laws. Another thing I will point out, several years ago I had to take vanc, they did blood tests on me to make sure the vanc level was not too high as it can affect the kidneys. Not an antibiotic anyone should take without being supervised by a dr.
