Can I use Salofalk 4g retention enemas if I'm on max. oral dose?

Currently taking 4x1,200mg of Mesalazine oral (Mezavant). The 1g nightly Salofalk suppository and the daily Budesonide foam is doing nothing and I've been on both for 6 months now.

Can I substitute the 1g suppository for a 4g retention enema or is that too much Mesalazine?

Waiting to get on a biologic but I need to do something until then, I still bleed after every BM and the throbbing pain in my rectum after going lasts for 2 hours and is horrible..

it's not too much. I have done that, even while taking other drugs.

Hi. I am in same situation as you are. Inflammation in rectum and bleeding with well formed stools. I am taking suppositories from last 6 months but it didn't help then my doc told me to switch to pentasa suppositories and i noticed some changes. I think you should also try them. They are small in size and sit where they needed. My doc told me nothing to worry about and keeping me away from taking steroids

What’s the difference between normal suppositories and pentasa ones? Aren’t both mesalazine?

Yes they are same but difference is in size. In my case i feel that it sits in right place and easy to take. Other one that looks like a rocket lol, i felt it travel way above my inflammation area.

They would still cover the area if low in rectum because they sit just above the anal/rectal sphincter, and both are 1000mg. But, it's always good to try another brand to see if there is improvement.
