my wife just ran across this article...the peoples comments at the bottom are ignorant and makes me believe that there needs to be more out there to inform people of this disease and the daily struggles we deal with...as i dont find UC to be funny at all

Gee, how nice!  The world is full of ignorant and insensitive people.  It's one of those sad facts of life...and the way I see it, completely out of anyone's control but their own.  If they become educated about UC, people like that will just be ignorant and insensitive about something else.  eyes

That is terrible! Some of those comments made me sick

"Hey, what's funny is funny. If you people can't see the humor in this then maybe YOU should get some surgery too...like having that 10' pole removed from your asses, it's interfereing with your sense of humor."

What the hell??? It's amazing how ignorant people can be, and they wonder why we're afraid to talk to others about our disease. Unbelievable.

Well, don't be too hard on those people who made those nasty comments, after all they have IBD as well....Inflammatory BRAIN Disease which causes the symptoms of VERBAL diahreah, so you see, they cannot help their stupidity anymore than someone who has Inflammatoy Bowel Disease being able to control their disease...we spew it out from our butts and they spew it out from their mouths!

If you look at the big picture, they have it worse because at least we have the chance of a cure (hopefully someday) but people like that will likely never be cured.

Afterall, it's the world we live in, if everyone exercised compassion there would not be rape and murder and all the other ugly things people do.

Geesh, I wouldn't make fun of any disease, any disease.  What goes around comes around.  People who make comments like that think that they are a fearless and nothing will ever cross their path in terms of health.  nono Eventually though luck runs out.  One informative thing I did learn though is that Snow's colon cancer originated from UC.

Oh and one other thing ... this is why I haven't told anyone about having UC. The only ones who know are immediate family (even that, not all of them). I am afraid that other's reactions will be similiar to these comments.

It wouldn't be the same, afterall I'm sure everyone of them have experianced a stomach flu and yet they still have the nerve...having a stomach bug compared to a life-long disease with D really doesn't compare, not to mention all the other nasty things that go along with having IBD...the extraintestinal manifestations.

LOL..I have NO interest in sports...but the comments made somehow don't surprise me.

I don't think any "education" is worth the effort...hey, they prefer bleeding that they see as a result of aggressive infliction upon another..
NOW...THAT'S WHERE THE REAL ACTION IS!! groan

Well, I can sympathize for him. UC is especially hard on us athletes. I was on my way to a baseball scholarship in high school, when it was snuffed out from under me with this darn illness. As far as those comments are concerned, what do you expect from morons who tune into Fox?! Actually, I would think that there's something wrong if they didn't make those comments. eyes

What I don't understand, is I bet these same people would think it's completely inappropriate to make fun of someone with cancer or leukemia, but it's perfectly alright to make fun of us because "ew they have a poop disease" Grr. Anytime I tell anyone about my colitis I just say it's a stomach disease or an intestinal disease (most people don't relate intestine with colon) and that I have bleeding ulcers and it makes me really sick. Just nice and vague. Because people are dumb.

I bet their too stupid and self-absorbed to treat anyone eles any better regardless of their health, if it's something you can make fun of or laugh at (like a cancer patient losing all their hair, I'm sure people like those who left nasty comments wouldn't think twice about making fun of someone for losing their hair) then I'm sure those kind of people have no limits.
