Hi all - I haven't posted on here in a long time, but I'm still a lurker from time to time.  I've been doing really well (1-2 solid BM's a day!) and I have actually been running 5K races.  Our next one is October 14th!

Anyway, I was reading CNN this morning and came across this and thought it sounded pretty awesome.  Maybe one day we can get a "virtual" c-scope and forgo crapping our brains out!

I read the same thing, sounds good to me!  Of course the article doesn't specifiy how well it can view the condition of the lining of our colon, such as ulcerations, etc.  Wonder if that would work for us if we're not in a flare.  If we're flaring, I'm assuming we'd probably need the traditional c-scope, to see more details that the virtual might not see.

I seen that on the news this morning too. The machine looks like a MRI machine. I also don't know how accurate it will be when trying to view for ulceration which I think a traditional cscope would have to be used. This article is mainly focused on polyps and colon cancer so I think for something like that, it's a great practical idea.

I saw it on GMA this morning.  You still have to do the prep, which is the worst part.  You still have to have a tube inserted to fill you up with air, and if you need biopsies done or polyps removed you still have to have a c-scope done anyway.  I don't see any benefits here....

I saw it on GMA also & thought great. Then they said that you still had to prep. sad You also don't get any sedation for the tube they have to insert to put air into your colon for better pictures. I really don't want to be awake if something has to be inserted up my rear. :-)

I asked about it a few years ago when they were trying to dx me. I was told that with UC that they want to take biopsies and they can't do that with the vitual c-scopes. If they found something with the virtual c-scope you would have to prep again and go for the traditional c-scope, so it could turn into extra preps.

C-scopes aren't that bad, it's the preps that are the difficult part.

The virtual is mainly marketed to business executives who want a very comprehensive annual physical. It has no practical value for IBD patients at this point. However, folks, there IS a new gizmo being trotted out to replace the digit part of the digital (rectal) exam! It feels like a miniature wisk broom! (Thru the jelly). / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC [etc.])
