Questions on recent colonoscopy

I had my colonoscopy yesterday morning and I am anxiously awaiting the lab results due early next week.  My last exam a year ago showed indeterminate dysplasia so I am rather aprehensive to say the least.  What little I can remember as my GI came in afterwards was 2 ft. of colon with UC, diverticulitis, internal hemis, removal of 3 or 4 polyps.  I only noticed when I got home that the diet instructions were "low sodium".  I'll have this question answered soon but in the meantime, does anyone know why I would be put on a low salt diet? It sure doesn't sound like anything has improved in the last year and I'm sitting on pins and needles till the lab results come in. Thanks for any input.

Hi...you certainly have a lot of issues going on in that colon of yours. I think the low sodium diet would be to not retain any fluid...especially since you're on entocort and you had minor surgery from the polyp removal. The other possibility is that sodium (which attracts fluid), through the colon after a c-scope, could cause you some diarrhea and urgency.

I'm guessing, but it seems logical. Consider that the purgatives before a c-scope are mostly salt...

Please let us know the results...

Has your doctor ever asked if you've considered to have your colon removed?

So far there hasn't been any discussion of colon removal by my GI.  That may change after the lab results.  Thanks for the info and I'll keep you informed of what I find out next week.
