Entocort (budenoside) for UC?

Has anyone here managed to try Entocort for their UC?  I guess in the US it is only approved for CD.  My UC is sometimes considered on the indeterminate side, and also, I have heard that it is used for UC in some other countries, so I'm interested in seeing if I could get off pred and more onto entocort until I can get off the poison altogether.

I have been on Entocort during flare ups and it works great. It does take awhile to work though. Give it about a month to see any kind of improvement. I did get a headache from it, but the headache goes away after about a week. I have also been on pred, and I would take Entorcort any day. Just give it a month to work.

After trying to do without Colazal I went into a flare over a year ago.  I had to go back on Colazal and was prescribed Entocort in addition.  It stopped the bleeding and I have been on it ever since.  Just finished a colonoscopy Wed. and awaiting lab results.  I still have some bleeding at times and the UC still is active.  I'd hate to think what would happen if I tried to get off anything now. Lab results due early next week and I'm  apprehensive because of what they found last year.

I use compounded Budesonide enemas. I have been using them for 5 years. They work great for the left side and has kept the inflammation there at a minimum. Entocorts active ingredient is also Budesonide. I am not sure if they actually sell Entocort brand enemas here in the US by prescription.

Thanks, everybody. I haven't asked my GI about entocort yet but I am going to try and gradually switch over if he lets me.

I was on Entocort for only 3 or 4 weeks and noticed immediate improvement, going from severe to moderate in just a few days. It didn't seem to do as much for me after a week or two. My GI said that it is focused more on the upper colon (right ascending) and ileum region, while prednisone is more general. The side affects are far less severe than prednisone, but like any steriod it can still throw you out of wack for a little while.

I was steroid-dependent and on Entocort for several years. It helped me a lot. Supposedly it produces fewer of the long-term side effects. And I'm pretty sure it's FDA-approved for UC, because my insurance covered it.
