Anyone else dealing w/ excessive warts?

I started getting flat, flesh colored warts on my face about 6 months after I started imuran. I just keep getting more and more. I realize that they are a virus that I am basically spreading around my face. My derm zapped several the last time I was there. Is there anything else I can do? Anyone dealing with it? I guess I'm just embarrassed b/c they are on my face. Nowhere else on my body though. Thanks guys!

Not myself but I've heard that if you have a really low immune system that alot of warts is common...you should see if your doc can help with this issue, I'm sure it can't be fun.

I used to have a lot of plantar warts on my feet. They were horrible to deal with...really painful, gross looking, highly contagious and very, very hard to get rid of! I had to get them frozen off at the doctor's office about 5 or 6 times and try lots of different home treatments before they finally went away for good...they stuck around for probably 4 yrs. before I got rid of them. I'm sure your doctor can suggest something. Maybe yours will be easier to get rid of. It sounds like they are a different type.

I am seeing my GI on Tuesday and I was planning on asking him this too. Because I never had a wart problem before I started on 6mp - well that's not true, I had one on my knee 1 year prior to starting but since I started 6mp I broke out with them mostly on my legs/ankles. I will let you know what he has to say.

I also have a lot of warts on my hands and legs and went to a dermatologist last year and he scraped some of them off (very painful) He told me that it is a virus and they will go away over time. I tried a cream with sallycic acid and it never helped, but I've been told that a home remedy of castor oil and cover with a bandaid works but haven't tried that yet.

You can use intralesional immunotherapy by injecting the wart with skin antigen which makes the immune system attack the virus, even at other distant sights from the initial injection.

Horus...my derm. mentioned this procedure (and a million others it seemed like!). We were concerned about my immune system already being compromised from the Imuran. Thoughts?

If your immune system is lowered from imuran such that you get more and more warts, then just continually burning, freezing, cutting or other superficial means of removing the wart is pointless as they will just keep coming back because the virus is deeper than the skin. You need to make the immune system recognize the virus itself and attack it so that you get a systemic effect all over the body. Can imuran stop this process? Do they tell you it's pointless to get a flu shot if you are on imuran?

GI gave me the a-ok for the flu shot. I see the derm every 6 months. Next appt. I'm going to get him to go further indepth about other options besides freezing. Imuran already slows my healing process and I don't want to go through another weeklong period where I look like I was attacked by bees on my face!

If a flu shot works while on imuran then there is reason enough to believe that injecting a wart with skin antigen will produce the desired results as well. Both different shots are trying to get the immune system to recognize a virus. A flu shot is prepared in egg antigen and complexed with the flu virus. Injecting an allergy antigen into a wart virus should accomplish something similar.

I had warts on my hands really bad when I was in 2 grade (1977), and had about 20 burned off. Then they started showing up on the backs of my hands when I was about 30. A couple times a year, I would have them frozen off. Until my dermatologist suggested a cream that he actually prescribed for genital warts. I was a bit hesitant...just not wanted to go to the pharmacy to pick up THAT perscription, but after they just kept coming back and coming back (always on my hands), i finally said "what the heck, i'll give it a try." AND after 2 weeks of putting on the cream twice a day, they have NEVER come back.

I don't remember the name of the stuff, but like I said, it's usually prescribed for genital warts...I would totally recommend it.

Just my 2 cents...
