Im not taking them any more.. They dont do anything.. Im just gonna take Pro-bio and Ibuprofin.

Oh yeah.. I wouldn't follow my lead on this... Unless you're ready to face some possible serious complications..

Oh duh, meds. I'm not taking them anymore either. I've been off them for 26 days. Yes I feel better, my urgency is a lot less. My symptoms are better being off the meds, then being on. Plus, I have energy and sleep better. Don't follow me either. I'm working with a naturalpath doctor from Michigan that I have confidence in. Finally a doctor, I feel good about.

My GI did a great job on my colonoscopy, but to get in to see her about the results 2 fricken months! How do you explain that? Even though she talked to me after and I'm sure it looked like I could carry a converstation (repeating myself) I really wanted to see her after and discuss it. She won't even call me her nurses call me. I like her alot! But her attitude that I feel coming from her is you have it and you'll always have it, this is the rest of your life. Um....I can't deal with that. I believe in miracles and the great impossible will be done unto me.

Diet is a key thing for me. Just ask the pizza that came screaming out, ouch!

Yeah, I get miffed when the doctor says "your disease" .

Its like what disease? You cant tell me I have a disease since you cant do anything to treat it.. I have some inflammation.. not a disease.. So stop treating me like colitis case number 653,987...
As far as the nurse goes.. I have the same deal.. I have an easier time getting Bush on the phone than the doctor.. I caught the nurse bold face lying to me one day saying he wasnt in... I could hear him in the background.. He can keep these BS drugs.. They don't work and im better on my own.. 4 days no meds... Pro-bio and ibuprofin... I haven't felt this good in a while..

I'm curious to hear what kinds of naturopathic remedies are out there for UC. There has to be some things that will help the Colon heal and feel better.

Hey Harpo, you so get me. I've finally figured out really what I have and my doctor agrees. He said I ate someone's poop when I ate that alfalfa sprouts (unwashed) and I have a ecoli stain in my gut. If you read up on ecoli which causes chronic diarreah, the symptoms are lose, water diareeah with urgency, gas, bloating and abdomin pain and sometimes blood usually effecting the small intestine and/or bowel, this is exactly what I have. My naturalpath knows this and we're working on elimating (he says assassanating) the bacteria. I'm taking citricidal 2 drops four times a day. He says by Thanksgiving I should be good to go. I do notice a improvement since being off meds and taking this. I don't have the urgency like I did, I can drive my car without fear of going to every bathroom on my route. Also, diet has a lot to do with it too. I did read too a person had a infection like mine and it took 4 months on this stuff Citricidal. We'll see.  I totally get what I have, chronic diareeah. Don't all the symptoms sound like UC? Sorry I can't spell worth a poop. Doesn't this thing have spell check?

Not one doctor wanted to find out what caused my "UC" but one. I've been to 8 doctors in 3 years! Why? Because every doctor I went to didn't want to listen to me in what I think caused it, they only wanted to prescibe me medicine and scope me a million times.

My doctor says too not for me to take immodium b/c it only stops the bacteria from coming out, I need to purge myself. I'm not doing a wacky cleanse, but we are working on cleaning the gall bladder and liver. I'm able to function better than when I was on meds for my doctors help. If anyone is interested in a appt with him, he's from Novi, Michigan.

I have tried buying a new bed $1,100 dollars, replacing the carpet $2,000, (I thought maybe allergies what causing my UC) I had my fillings (4) in my teeth removed and replaced with non-mercury $2,500,  I have done water colonics, cleaners, $100, I have taken every supplement you can think of, $5,000 and I spent $170 on Digestinol per bottle! My new Natural Path Doctor, PRICELESS. We're working with Whole Food Supplements by Standard Process and it's a combination of many.

I am getting better.

Be careful with the ibuprofen as it can cause intestinal damage. I'd look that up online. All doctors have always cautioned me against ibuprofen and asprin. Ibu because of the intestinal/ulcer problems it can cause and asprin because it promotes bleeding.

I take tylenol with no problems and my doctor says it's not dangerous for people with UC.

How much Ibuprofen are you taking?

Yes, my doctor also told me not to take ibuprofen because that will aggravate the UC.  Although he also recommended Flora Q and after having no major flares for almost two years, I started a flare right after taking the Flora Q.  He told me he thought it was a coincidence but I wonder.

What are we all doing I'm pretty new to this site but I continually hear stories of Dr's who have no clue or are 2 arrogant to care. Usually it's both.
It's not right, I'm so sick of the crapy experiences I've had, and the lame explanations. All so they can tellme they're right when they've never had the disease these Dr's don't want to find a cure because we keep them and the drug companies they work 4 in jobs
I say stick to the Naturopath that's what I'm doing.
My latest Gastro guy wants to do another colonoscopy the third 1 this yr. i havn't recovered from last 2 op;s yet he tells me yes there will be pain but he needs to have a look. Well looking ain't guna heal me it's only guna hurt me and confuse him. I'm over Dr's and about to abandon them all together they are rude often wrong and ususally make it worse havn't bn to one yet that has just fixed the problem at hand. they always half fix one thing and bring a new complication with them

I've read all the warnings.. Im just taking 2 a day .. Which is like 1/3 of the daily allowance. I really dont think I have UC.. I think I have just been "lumped in" with the diagnosis because Im 5 minutes a month on my doctors schedule.. Honestly, I feel no worse without the meds.. Who knows this may be a bad move.. But I'll take my chances to see if the meds are really helping.. I hate drugs.. Except beer.. :wink:

Any ibuprofen is a bad idea for someone who has UC or has a sensitive gut. Any GI doc worth his salt will tell you to avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatories.

From the Mayo Clinic Web site:
For mild pain, your doctor may recommend acetaminophen (Tylenol, others). Don't use nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) or naproxen (Aleve). These are likely to make your symptoms worse.

Yep.. Thats what they say.. Doesnt seem to be hurting me.. :) And for the people that take Colazol.. Thats nothing but a complex aspirin..

I always thought NSAIDs just warned that they could cause stomach bleeding...I've never read that they can cause other GI tract bleeding. I know it's all connected though. I don't think taking some a couple times a month would be a problem, but every day might be. But, keep us posted as to how you're doing Harpo. I am getting fed up with meds, too...

Are you taking the ibuprofen because it's an anti-inflamatory or for pain relief?

There are some natural anti-inflamatory things you could try, if that's what you're after -- For example, eating a lot of ginger. I think tumeric pills are also supposed to function as anti-inflammatories... but don't quote me on that.

For pain relief I would totally go with Tylenol. Or a heating pad. :)

I've had moments when I'm totally fed up with Western medicine and other times when I believe it's really the way to go. It depends on how I'm feeling at the moment and what I feel is working or not working.

I think those of us cautioning against the ibu are just worried about you possibly getting into some problems with it.

NSAIDs cause bleeding in the bowels...any good GI will warn patients of this...

On the note of "no more meds" I have to say speaking from my own personal experiances in my 16.5 yrs of having crohns (crohns-colitis specifically) in more ways than not, I'm grateful that I'm either allergic or non-responsive to traditional oral RX...I went for yrs taking nothing yes I stayed in a flare ranging from moderate to severe but I'll tell you, from my own experiances, once I put my skeptisism aside about the "natural route" and went for it I've never been happier compared to days of being on absolutely nothing...sure I'm not in full remission, but I'll take 5 BM's/day, no bleeding, no mucus, no pain, little gas, no bloating, no hair falling out, no weird rashes, no bad teeth (from meds) no moodiness, weight gain, ect compared to what I do have, healthy skin, teeth, hair and nails, and able to eat any fibreous foods I want.

I exercise regularly, drink a ton of water, avoid processed foods/beverages, junk-food, processed/refined sugar, animal fat, caffeine and take bee propolis, omegas 3-6-9, probiotics, fibre supplements, vitamins B-12, C-Calcium ascorbate and A, along with a chamomile tea everyday (first thing).

Yup, I'm so glad I'm either allergic or non-responsive to traditional oral RX (cortifoam enema is still also a life-saver for me but this is the first time in yrs I havn't had to use them either, it's been the last 2ish yrs now in a row and that's a record for me).

Important to remember, what works for some doesn't work for all and often it's a combination of things that makes the most difference...it's all trial and error, take other peoples advice as a lead, try out different probiotics to see what works best for YOU, and go from there, adjust your diet according to common sence, eating well balanced (when you're including sugar, caffeine and other flammatory foods and beverages) is NOT the same as eating healthy....LOTS AND LOTS of water and exercise be it yoga, pilates or what have you, exercise has a huge effect on the health of your bowels...always go slow and build up.

Honestly.. At this point.. When I am sore/gas/pain.. The ibuprofin seems to stop it.. Im at a very low dose as well.. This may very well result in some form of flare.. But when you're grasping for straws.. Anythings worth a shot.. Its not like Ibuprofin has 1/100th of the potential toxicity of some of these other drugs.. ie 6mp, humira, remicade.. I dont feel like its too much of a risk.. Whats the worse that can happen? I'll start bleeding.. Oh well not like I'm not used to that.. :)

I noticed you take Protonix for acid reflux right? Enzymedica makes a natural acid reducers that has marshmellow root in it. Their products are great! I just want to share that with you.

So you're ok with taking ibuprofen? I guess I've taken that before UC with no problems. How often do you take it? Do you notice your inflamation is down when you take it?

Hey, THEREAREMIRACLES, I thought you did well on Asacol but your 1st doctor mistakenly told you to get off it when flare healed up. Wasn't that the case? / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

yes I did get rid of my ulcers with asacol and rowasa, but the urgency and the diarreah never went away! Never ever. I was still having accidents in my pants all the time.  How, if the doctor looks up there and it's completely healed, can you still have the symptoms except the bleeding stopped?

Asacol, starting off the first week, headaches and diarreah, long term I was completely worn out. I couldn't function. Brain fog and no energy. I also had blisters on my lips and I posted on that several times asking if anyone experienced that and saw the doctor. He said no one has reported blisters on the lip. The combo of asacol and rowasa was too much for my body to handle! At one point I couldn't even move in bed, knees ached, body ached like the flu, but I didn't have the flu. Nausau so sick to my stomach all the time. Here's something weird as sick to my stomach as I was for weeks and weeks I never throw up, it was always the other end that was affected.

I think it's the coating on the drugs that get to me. Did you read my post about chronic diareeah and bacteria infection? I mean, it mimmicks UC symptoms too.

If I had to choose between, colozal, pentasa and asacol, I would have to go back to asacol I think. I'm truly better off right now though. I noticed the supplements that I'm taking have a lot of vitamin A in them. Is there a link I wonder, b/c they seem to be helping a lot along with the citricidal.

When I had a colon, Tylenol helped with the pain of passing gas/feces through a narrowed, tranverse colon.
