Common terms used here on the Uc forum

There are a few abbreviated terms we use here on the Uc forum that I thought I would put a post up in case no one knows what they are but don't want to feel silly for asking :-)   However, please do not hesitate to ask any sort of question if you are unclear to what it means.  You can't learn if you don't ask right??

NSAID'S = nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil, Aleve, Naproxen, Motrin etc.

5-ASA'S = these are medications such as Asacol, Colazal, Rowasa enemas and Canasa suppositories

CD = Crohns Disease

UC = Ulcerative Colitis (I really hope we all know what THIS means tongue )

BUMP = we use this term to put a thread back to the top of the page for more responses and views

D = diarrhea

C = constipation

OT = (off topic) this is an off the topic of UC type post

DD, DH, DW, DS = dear or darling daughter, husband, wife, son

MIL or FIL = Mother or Father-in-law

If you have any more that I didn't cover, please feel free to post it!

RX=perscription

OTC=over the counter

antis=antibiotics (my own twist anyways)

pros=probiotics (my own twist anyways)

What's a GI?

The way it's normally written it sounds like it's the same as gastroenterologist but when my doctors mention the GI they mean the gastrointestinal tract.

GI is the same as a gastroenterologist or it can be referred to as the GI tract. But on here it mostly means the doctor.

SX = symptoms
PCP = primary care physician
GP = general practitioner

BTW=by the way...I use this one from time to time and am surprised at how many ask what I'm referring too, I thought it was as universal as FYI.

It sort of is a new language. The rough part is when you start writing a letter (yes an actual hand written letter!) to someone and you find yourself adding in the "LOL"! That's when some of us know we need help! :)

Ha ha, LOL!!!!

Or how about when someone says something funny to you and instead of actually laughing you say "LOL"...I do that to my hubby and he hates it (which is why I continue doing it now).
