I dont think its chemo, rather an immunosupressant (sp) that is given to transplant patients. It couteracts our over active immune systems. Of course this is simple.

Chemotherapy = chemical + therapy.
Azathioprine limits the proliferation of certain cells, notably leukocytes (white blood cells), through purine inhibition. In effect reducing one's immunological status, limiting the body's ability to fight infection.
