  Hey all!

My name is Teresa and I'm a little new to the site. I was just DX: with colitis on Oct 3, 2007 and stayed in the hopstial a week. When i first arrived in the hospital they gave me some dilada, phenegran, and a antibodic, that was the first night, i then stayed 3 or 4 more nights with no fluid no antibodic or pain killer etc. Didnt even ask :(.  So while i was there my doc did a CT scan and a flex sig thats how he said i have colitis. So i went to the hospital and got my CT scan results and it said impression of pancolitis. So i went back for a follow up and my doc put me on asacol 400 mg 4 x day and xanax .25  twice a day. So i dont really notice a difference. I dont have the diharrea (sp) i have conspatition. So i told him i was taking myrlax once a day and now thats make it real soft stools where now i go sometimes 3 times a day. so i cutting back on that. but i still have a pain underneath my rid on the right side. feels like something sticking me. Could it be cancer or something else. I have painc and anxiety and i was hoping maybe some of you all could help me out. I hope all this makes since.

Hi Teresa, welcome to Healingwell :) First, you need a full colonoscopy with biopsies to rule out cancer. They are not fun but demand to have one. Then if it comes out negative then you can breathe easier. How many Asacol are you taking? Was that 4 a day or taking it 4 times a day but how many in total?

I second Red_34, a colonoscopy will allow the doctor to take biopsies and to actually see your colon.  Thought that was the only way to get a 100% diagnosis.  Demand one, nobody will take care of your health as well as you do.  Don't worry about having one, it really isn't too bad, the fear is worse than the procedure itself.

My fear when I first went to see my GI was cancer too, but he told me that one symptom of colon cancer is unexplained weight loss, which I did not have.  If your doctor suspected cancer, I am sure he/she would have you in for a colonoscopy immediately so I would not worry too much.

i third that, i just got out of a two week stay at the hospital, where they did a few xrays, 2 ct scans, lots of blood work and other test and procedures to try and figure out the diagnosis, after they did a colonoscopy i started getting alot more answers as well they were able to start trying treatments. And the procedure sounds alot worse than it is, i had very mild discomfort and only occasionaly. i was up walking around with no pain in 3 hours. So definatly try and have one done. Good luck

Thank you all for the comments, I just worry so much, would the flex sig and showed signs of cancer or the ct. just trying to get reassurance.

thanks red and to answer your question i'm on 400 mg of acsacol a day and take 4 of them a day.

I have also noticed that for the last couple of days my stools have been a little soft, not hard like normal, but i have been taking myrlax for 2 weeks now everyday.

Hmmm... That sounds like a low amount of Asacol. Usually, the minimum does is six tablets a day - split into two or three doses.

The pain on your right side could be where the inflammation is bad. Whenever I flare, I have a spot on my left, under my ribs that feels so weird - kind of like you were saying - "sticky".

Perhaps you're ready to switch to every other day with the myrlax.
