I went to the doctor about 3 weeks ago when I was having bad case of bronchitis. I have a history of respiratory problems, so I take this things more seriously than most. He gave me Zithromax and sent me on my way. The antibiotics gave me no discernible improvement on the bronchitis, and now, I think I have pneumonia (Dr. appt this afternoon). I am taking Colazal and Entocort for my UC. I am wondering if these meds interacted with the antibiotics and that is why my bronchitis failed to improve. Thoughts?

I am the queen of the sinus/ear infection combo. I have been on every type of antibiotic under the sun. This happened to me last time..the first antibiotic I got didn't work so I had to do another week of another one. You may just need something different and/or stronger.

I am sorry you are sick. My 2 1/2 year old just recovered from pneumonia. I know pediatric care is different but he was given an antibiotic shot and then regular antibiotics. Hope you feel better soon! Oh and make sure you are taking your probiotics!

Hi 4Johanna, I just got over a 'bout' of bronchitis, after having had sinus infection several months earlier.  I was initially presrcibed avelox and it did not help, at all!  I called and my GP then prescribed clarithromycin (sp?) the alternative for biaxin.  I was initially skeptical, thinking it would be too strong and mess with my UC.  I was also prescribed the prednisone pack along with the clarithromycin after having just tapered off the pred.  Again, I was skeptical. HOWEVER, the combo worked, along with a decongestant. It took a good two weeks to feel back to 'normal.'  Hang in there and REST, REST,REST!  Bronchitis is no fun.  I haven't felt that bad from a respiratory ailment in ages!  Take care and let your doc know how you feel about it all.

Are you taking probiotics? I have heard that probiotics can affect the effectiveness of antibiotics. I know someone who had an ear infection and was taking the probiotics as to not have a flare while taking the antibiotics. She couldn't get well. She stopped taking the probiotics and the antibiotics worked. Who knows if it was a coincidence or not...

Hey, I'm on Zithromax also, right now...It doesn't seem to be helping me either.  I've heard that people are becoming really resistant to it.  I was put on Zithromax after already having a shot of antibiotic and a steriod shot for a sinus/cold infection.  You would think after all that the Zithromax would work, since it was only being used as a precautionary on top of the shots.  If I don't get better in a couple of days I'm going to ask for another antibiotic!
