new bleeding

hey everyone..new guy here.

    Was diagnosied 9 months ago with left sided UC, was started on asacol 6 a day, I was on vacation 2 weeks ago, and had some fast food, along with fried chicken ( which I haven't had since I was started this), I got some spasms, but realitive normal BM's.  Then one day, without any pain, or urgency, started bleeding with realitivly normal BM's even with increasing my asacol ( up to 9) and the enemas.  So I am scheduled for a sigmoidscopy, and my GI hinted a short boutof prednisone. 

    My question is this just a flare up? ( would be my first major one) or something alot worse?  confused

Hi and welcome to Healingwell :) Yes this is considered a flare. Anytime there are symptoms of Uc indicates a flare or an impending one. Just a suggestion, but instead of going on oral steroids, suggest the steroid enemas first. These work fairly quickly without all the horrible side effects of oral. I'm assuming the enemas you are using now are 5-ASA(mesalamine)?

Yes they are...usally with a little spasm; that helps. scool

What do you mean with a little spasm? Meaning that you find it hard to retain?

lots of gas, feeling like there is a belt pulling around me as I go.  And several more trips to the bathroom.

H..welcome to the forum!

Are you using the enemas nightly? Are you on Rowasa..or Salofalk? or a generic 5ASA?

How many bms are you having?

Were you using the enemas at all when you started bleeding?

Yes i use the Rowasa, but only with any bleeding.  Usally I have about 2-4 BM's a day.  That may change when i eat something greasy...the one thing I really miss out of all this is pizza, but what is weird is I can have raw cheese, but with pizza with  cheese  just wrecks me.  I also LOVED cheesecake, but i can get around that with custard ( from western new york)
