I'm scheduled for colonoscopy next week. I have hemorroids and wonder if that will add to discomfort of procedure. Doctor did not think so but I would like to hear from someone with similar circumstances.

You will be given some sort of anestheisia.  Last colonoscopy, whatever they gave me made me woozy but I was awake but felt very little discomfort.  A lot of doctors knock you out to do it.  Don't worry about it.  The worst part is the prep, that WILL hurt your hemmoroids.

I've had hemorroids and a fissure in the past when I've had a colonoscopy and it didn't effect me at all. Like princesscolon said the prep is probably going to be the worst for it. Good Luck!

I have never had hemorrhoids until I had my colonospy and my doctor said the prep caused me to have a small one. Make sure you buy wet wipes for the prep or you might be miserable.

Most people tolerate the scope well, I am hopeless however, even sedated have to ask to stop, get more sedation etc., my whole gut and abdomen are so frigged up I guess I am hypersensitive. Don't worry, they will make sure you don't hurt.

Colonoscopies are quite invasive which typically makes them painfull, add inflammation to that and in my opinion it's in-humane for any doc to perform one without sedating the patient.

colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy? The latter is less invasive and most do well without having any sedation because they don't go near as high with it compared to a colonoscopy.

Thanks for supportive comments. Colonoscopy went well. No pain before, during, or after. They found and removed three polyps so glad I went through procedure and encourage anyone over 50 or at risk to take the plunge.
