Has anyone tried this diet for their UC or Crohns Disease.  I bought the primal Defense and the Digestive Enzymes, but I haven't really used them.  I am stuck in between using conventional medicines or Holistic medicine.  I don't know if I can use these medicines while on Prednisone and Lialda.  I haven't had any flare ups, since being on Prednisone and Lialda. 

 

Any suggestions????

Also I go back to the Doctor on Thursday and he wants to get me away from prednisone, but put me on azathioprine

instead.  I don't know if I want to go that route.

I don't see any problem with taking them. I am currently taking Primal Defense and I've tried digestive enzymes in the past.

hi!
i used primal defense for a long time, i maybe went thru 3 large bottles or so.
am now using the enzymedica "probio" and it is working a lot better for me.

i don't stick to his diet, but have cut out all processed foods and feel much better than before. one of the main things i cut out was snack items like protein bars, granola bars, etc.

all you can do is try and see if you feel better!!

Hi Chelo75..welcome to the forum!

Where in the colon is your UC...throughout or limited?

Has the doctor never put you on any rectal meds such as Rowasa?

What exactly are the symptoms you're having at this time and what were they before you were diagnosed? Has there been any improvement since on the Lialda and pred?

I am not sure if it is limited or throughout.  He gave me some type of foam enema.  I haven't used it, because I feel pretty good right now.  I am just scared once I come off of the pred, what will happen.  Last time I was on it for two weeks and once I was off, my intestined got inflamed and I had to go to the hospital for 3 days.  I didn't know what was wrong, but I went to the restroom about 20 times in the morning with just blood.  The pain was awful, so I finally just checked myself in. 

Everything is back to normal now.  I am trying to avoid processed foods, dairy and alcohol.  I was also trying to avoid red meat, but my new doctor said I didn't need to.  I had some rotel and champagne, and I felt bad the next day.  I had alot of mucus, but no blood.  Now it is back to normal again.

Primal Defense and digestive enzymes aren't medicines and will not interfere with prescription medications. Primal Defense is a probiotic that includes soil based organisms. It tried using it. At first it seemed to help, then I got rapidly worse. Now, I stick to Natren's probiotics which have a proven track record of effectiveness and safety.

In general, most natural approaches - probiotics, digestive enzymes, omega-3 supplementation, aloe - are all safe enough to use in conjunction with prescription meds, although it's always a good idea to tell your doc what you're taking.

I had the same experience as Princesa with Primal Defense, I initially got better and then got much, much worse. In fact, after being in a flare for a few months I finally stopped taking the Primal Defense and almost immediately started improving. Scary. I now take a probiotic supplement by the brand "Ultimate Flora" and have had great success with it. I definitely agree that dietary changes can help UC sufferers immensely. I follow a combination of the "Specific Carbohydrate Diet" and the "Candida Diet." Both have helped me alot.

I tried this diet when I was in one of my first BAD flares and it made me really sick.  I even tried following the strict hygiene regimen, yuck!  AND very expensive.  If you are not flaring, it would probably be OK to try the diet, it is very healthy.  As for the probiotics, I use Culturelle and have done very well on it, I have not tried the Primal Defense ones, although I thought about buying the kids' version for my daughter.

I know what you mean Chleo75. I feel stuck between the homeopathic and prescription world as well. I find that when I am taking my prescription meds and not feeling well I tend to continue to take my prescriptions and add in the homeopathic stuff but I can never tell if they work and boy they are so expensive and I am not a patient person, sooo......anyway just chiming in. Trial and error I guess. I have found out recently that Aloe does help my tummy feel better I can't explain it it just seems to calm things down. I buy Aloe by the gallons now at Wal-Mart and I have at least one big glass a day. I also take Primal Defense. I see no difference either way with the Primal Defense so after finishing this bottle I doubt I'll buy more. I find that my Asocal and enemas are very helpful for now and hopefully forever (thinking positive). Good luck to you.

I read the book, tried some products (very expensive) and didn't really see any results.

I was up late one night and Jordan Rubin had an infommercial on TV. It was pushing his products and a new life plan. He talked about curing many illnesses and how he was cured but he never mentioned what illness he had. His book is all about Chrons.

Anyways, the FTC didn't care for what he was promising and he had to pay big fines:
