confused   Hi! I have just been dig. with Crohn's colitis. I have Patchy colitis, diverticulosis. The specialist put me on Asacol 2 tablets three times a day.  This all started in Oct. of this year with bleeding from the rectum. I thought it was hemorrids. My PA sent me to my surgeon for a colonoscopy - biopsy. Then she sent me to specialists. The bleeding has stopped and I have very little formed but more than before. From 10+ to 5 now, with not bleeding. The rectum has started hurting again and the abdom(can't spell) has never stopped. Just comes and goes. I have an appointment with a Dr. Wednesday. What can they do to make this go away. I am hungry all the time, tired,irritable and feel lowsy. I am still working my overnight job as a stocker at Wal Mart and am 65 years old. Hi Sherry from another Sherry :) I'm so sorry you are feeling so poorly. When you see your doctor, you can request rectal meds such as Rowasa if your inflammation is in your rectum to sigmoid area. This will make that pain subside or at least it should. The abdomen pain, I'm not sure how it is for Crohns colitis, but with UC - for me - the pain is usually the last to go. Do you take anything for the pain to help you cope?

Sherry, thank you for answering!! I have patchy colitis from rectum,sigmoid, and right colon. Also Sigmold diverticulosis and active proctitis. Did the Asacol cause your arm muscles to ache and your arms feel tired all the time? Also I get so hungry I get nausated then I eat and for a few minutes I am nauseted. Again thanks and God bless

I honestly can't answer about the Asacol because when I first started taking it, it was 15 years ago and my memory that far back is not so good :) I'm not on it now, I'm on Colazal. Maybe you can call your GI and tell him about your arm pains?

When I first started the asacol I felt nauseated several times a day and my stomach would hurt and my right side would hurt. I had none of these symptoms during my flare before the asacol. It definitely did help my flare too but it didn't get rid of it. Then when I started steroids and the flare complete went away all my symptoms except my right side hurting complete went away. I think it is so difficult to tell what symptoms of UC are from medication or changes in diet/habits because the disease comes and goes so much on it own. It is very frustrating to me.

Do you have a lot of stretching to reach shelves on your job? Or lifting? It could be that the repetitive motion or extra weight tires your arms more because your body is already stressed fighting off the colon inflammation. People with Crohn's and UC need a lot of rest. As for hunger, I know what you mean; those feelings bother me a lot when my colon is inflamed. I would advise you to eat a small amount of something bland & soothing like farina, natural apple sauce, graham crackers, white toast. Did your doctor tell you to avoid roughage because of the diverticulosis? I think with that a patient should avoid nuts & seeds, especially. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

I wanted to say hello, and sorry about your diagnosis. I took Asacol for a few years and never had any arm pains. All I remember is bad headaches all the time on it. I don't want to upset you, but it is probably the disease itself causing you to feel lousy, irritable and tired. Sometimes it can really wear on the body. Try to get extra rest if you can. Your arms might be hurting from the overall inflammation in your body and the lifting you do at work. Definitely mention it to your doctor. Please tell us what the doctor says.

I have crohns-colitis as well and proctitis on and off, thankfully it's been off for quite some time now since starting with probiotics...you may want to post at the crohns forum as well...although the same meds used to treat UC are used to treat crohns-colitis (crohns affecting the colon), there are other issues that may arise like fistulas, which are related to crohnies not to UCers...I post at both forums because of my location of my crohns myself.

I'm concerned about them thinking you have hemmies, was that because of the bleeding you experianced? Or do you have lumps on your anus that sort of resemble hemmies, because with crohns affecting the entire GI tract (from mouth to anus), these skin tags often get mistaken for hemmies when they are infact perianal crohns skin tags, which should not be treated the same way as hemmies are.

pb4, No they didn't think I had hemmies, I did as I had them before when I was pg with my daughter.

princesscolon, Yes, I agree I think it is just this crohns-colotis and the stress from it. I do quite a bit of lifting in my job. Yes I have headaches also.

Ya, I thought I had hemmies too when I was pregnant with my first, and at times when I was a teen, they would just come and go on their own with absolutely no other CD symptoms, but after having an emergency hemheroidectomy done on them, I learned the hard way they never were hemmies, but instead perianal crohns skin tags (disease anal tissue)...crohns can be a very funny, sneaky and cruel disease that way.
