that's really interesting. Tysabri is a very controversial drug. very useful, but some potential significant risks. was pulled off market for awhile..... very interesting...

just to clarify, article said it's approved for use in US (which is why FDA approved it). just that one of the manufacturers is Irish.

They will never give it to someone with UC.... surgery is a much better alternative than the side-effects of Tysabri.

Tysabri was only approved for use in the most extreme cases of MS and Crohns.

There are only a few drugs on the market that have FDA black-box warnings and Tysabri is one of them....they will make you jump through hoops to get Tysabri.

Keith - I totally agree it would never be approved for UC, and likely shouldn't since we can have surgery. but since Crohnies can't have surgery as a cure, it may be a good option for them if their quality of life is totally shot.

We've been discussing it over at the CD forum...with some contraversy of course because of the very negative past history of this particular med....brain infection killing a few people...bad side effect, even though they are deeming it safe and put it back on the market who wouldn't be leary about it...although there is one poster over at the CD forum raving about their success with it.
