mushy to hard!

Consider a normal colon functioning like it was meant to. At what point does the stool turn from mushy to hard in that colon. Is it musy when it enters the rectum. Or is it already pretty hard by then.

I know this will probably be different for each person but just wondering in general at what point does the stool start to get its "normal BM" texture.

I think the water is absorbed by the intestinal walls in the ascending and transverse colon, and to some extent by the descending colon. It should be to its final consistency when it reaches the rectum. The rectum just serves as a storage chamber to hold it so we can have one bm instead of 10 little ones. Unless we have proctitis, of course, in which case the irritated rectum won't hold anything, so we go all day.
