Colazal and new doctor

now i'm with new doctor- i'm on 50mg of prednisone, and colozal 3/3x a day. Has anyone had negaztive side of effects from colozal? I feel like i'm not getting better at all- i'm pretty scared

When I was initially diagnosed with UC last August, my 1st doc put me on Colazal. I loved it and sang it's praises for about 6 weeks. I thought it was a wonder drug- it made me better. Then, I lost control of my bowel twice in one morning. This terrified me. I'm convinced that it was the Colazal, because my symptoms are primarily bleeding and constipation (with the big d generally after several days of constipation). Anyway, the 1st doc (who was always coercive anyway) told me that it was probably not the Colazal. I adamantly disagree. I'm not stupid. According to ABA research design, if you don't have a symptom, then take a treatment (Colazal) and get a symptom (loss of bowel control), then discontinue the treatment (Colazal) and the symptom stops, then logically, it was the treatment (Colazal). I found a new doctor (last October) who switched my meds to Lialda, which didn't work initially. Now, I'm on Prednisone, tapering down from 30 mg currently at 15 mg, and 2 Lialda/day. It seems to have worked. FYI- I initially had pretty bad side effects to Canasa suppositories, but those went away after using them for a while. Some side effects, if you can deal with them may go away after your body gets used to the drug. I won't even get started on the side effects of the prednisone! I just think of it as a necessary evil.

I was on Asacol for years when it stopped working for me and when I switched to Colazal, I had an increase of symptoms too. Eventually it went away around the 2 week mark, but if you symptoms get too severe, don't hesitate to contact your doctor.
