can azathioprine (imuran) affect the gall bladder?

I had an ultrasound done but no stones were found, GI gave me prilosec to take, it helps somewhat but I am still getting that pain after I eat.  I hope aza doesn't do anything, I am running out of options.

Beth, where is the pain? I was reading about the side effects of Imuran and one of them said that you can get pain in the upper right side of your stomach........so I don't know if that would qualify as the gallbladder area?

FWIW, Beth, I had my first gallbladder attack in June and had my gallbladder removed in October. I've been on Aza for six years, approximately.

No one suggested that they were related, but you never know, I suppose.

FWIW, I had two attacks, one quite mild, and one where I was in a cold sweat, in the middle of the night, passed out on the bathroom floor, in so much pain I was considering calling an ambulance -- and I'm not prone to do that kind of thing.

I wish you'd catch a break, darlin'. :-(

thanks for the info Red, i'll check w/my Doc when I see him in April, I think (hope) it's food related b/c it's only after I eat something or if I eat too much (darn pred!) and it is my upper right side right below my bra (easist way to describe).

Mitz sorry you had to go through that it sounds painful! Glad you are ok now.

yeah, I am pretty disheartened right now, the 5ASA's caused my kidney disease and now the pred I am on for the kidney disease is elevating my sugars and I could become type 2 diabetic (I am now on a no carb, no sugar, low salt diet). I am trying to stay positive but it's very hard, I guess it could be worse........at least my favorite beer is has very low carb, sugar and salt = )

Beth,

With the list of problems that have been caused by your UC meds, has your GI recommended surgery? I understand this is probably a step you do not want to take, none of us did, but you could regain your health, eat what you want, and not have to take all these meds. Life really is better post surgery!

You are so young -- in the prime of you life!!! -- I just hate to see you having so many health struggles, Beth. Maybe it's time to explore the knife option -- at least explore it. How long have you been diagnosed? If you could stop all your meds, would your kidney disorder clear itself?

I just wish there was something I could do to help you. I get so discouraged reading what you're going through, honey.
