Flagyl question

I am glad he is feeling better. I would try not to stress about whether or not the pain might return, you just never know. Try to think positive.

I love flagyl! It helps my rectal issues so much! I have taken a lower dose of it for months, and then have periodically been on it. I just finished a 2 month dose.

I take mine with choc. milk. I put some in my mouth then pop the pill and chase it down with another swallow of choc. milk.....absolutely no taste this way.

the prilosec was something prescribed preventatively due to the various meds he was on to keep him from having a heartburn type problem -- not prescribed for any type of disorder

these 2 anti biotics were prescribed for the H Pylori we are trying to eradicate from our systems -- we are down to 2 more days and then we're done with them

he seems to be tolerating them just fine and also got this little side benefit it seems while taking these meds...............if the flagyl is really helping and there is a definite change once he is off it totally and the rectal discomfort returns then maybe a low dose might be in order then....we will re-visit that and have to discuss if the risks associated with the medicine are worth continuing taking it

Thanks for the responses...I remember reading about your nerve damage U Chick in the foot and it half scared me to death as he is type 2 diabetic which is under amazing control but we definitely don't want something that can compromise a foot/feet

Hi Numb - not hijacking at all....I too was/is very concerned about the nerve damage thing.

I noticed you just started the imuran recently. Hopefully you will see some noticeable improvement soon. My husband was started on 75 mg low dose in May 07 and on July 3rd it was the first time he was up to going out and started to socialize. The Mayo clinic agreed with all his course of treatment except they upped him to 150 mg in Oct 07 at our first visit with monthly blood test monitoring. (Just went yesterday for labs and once the Mayo reviews them they will authorize another month of imuran. They are doing this for a year.) Although he was coming along on the 75 the 150 increase made a big difference for him. Of course the 100 may be your max as it is weight based and his local dr here was very conservative at the outset.

Good luck with it as it gave my husband most of his life back. He is finally off the prednisone and having some of the usual withdrawal side effects. But considering where he was last May when he was at Zero he is now an 8 or 9 most days.

(My husband's first flare was treated very quickly with prednisone and went into remission for a year and a half -- very similar to what happened to you.)

I believe this happened in the Fall of 2002. I didn't really have any symptoms exactly. All I know is that out of nowhere it felt like my feet were constantly asleep. I thought they were asleep because I felt that tingling sensation. I didn't really make anything of it at first, but when it didn't go away I told my parents that my feet were asleep and it wouldn't go away. Two weeks later I told them again and then we called my GI I believe. I hate to say this, but I don't think my parents believed me since you can't see a foot being "asleep."

My GI told us to make an appointment with a neurologist and when I saw this guy he did some reaction tests and asked me questions about what it felt like and everything like that. He told me that there was some very minor nerve damage in my feet. He prescribed me Neurontin. (spelling?) After taking this course of meds it went back to normal. Something in the Flagyl had reacted negatively with my body.

Today there aren't any after affects except I don't like other people to touch my feet and my toes don't bend very well. I don't know if that has anything to do with my previous nerve damage though.
