Just a note to let you all know I've been rediagnosed with IBS & my colitis is under control with Asacol.  This is not to say I may be back to this forum in the future but right now I'm struggling with getting IBS under control.  This forum is a great place to share our medical problems & you all have been so nice to one another.

Right now I'm experiencing muscle spasms of the rectum to the point I haven't been able to leave the house in the past two days  My. dr. prescribed Valium .5mg 4 times a day.  I was fine yesterday but this morning took one & am really loopy.  I'm eating crackers to fill me up since I only had toast for breakfast.  I'm continuing to take Prednisone til the script runs out so have put on 7 lbs. (feel bloated & as pregnant as my youngest daughter)  Now I'll search for a forum for IBS.

Good Luck to all of you colitis sufferers & maybe I'll return sometime in the future.

Hi...your doctor should prescribe you rectal meds....for sure.

Most of us her have IBS too,Try taking a drug called Colofac.Its a far better drug to take than valium.Thats a massive dose just to control spasms.bEWARE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS!!!!!When my spasms were that bad my hospital consultant started me on 2mgs x 3 daily.You should ask about colofac or Spasmonal Forte, they are far better for the spasms. I still take the colofac now.Valium is such an addictive drug and its side effects are scary sometimes.

Unfortunately my daughter was just DX with having IBS (I have crohns and IBS), hopefully she won't get IBD too but the doc gave her meds called Dicetel (We're in Canada so the name might be different in other parts of the world). She seems to be doing better with it, maybe talk to your doc about it.

Take a probiotic. It has transformed my IBS.

There is an IBS forum at Healingwell - if you haven't found it already. My mother has IBS and I know that the issues can be as awful as IBD.

Yes, probiotics ane fibre (via supplements and/or food) are both very beneficial for IBS.

They've helped with both my crohns and IBS.
