ganglion cyst on finger

I'm new here but I'm looking for information about my cyst. It has popped & drained several times since January 08 & when it fills up it is very painful. It also doesn't seem to be draining completely like it was before, so it is gradually getting bigger. I was told I could have surgery or hit it with a book, I decided to go with the book because it's faster & cheaper. A very big, heavy book was dropped on my left index finger first knuckle. The cyst didn't pop like I expected it to but there appears to be blood coming up that I can see inside the blister. I'm wondering if anybody has done this before & are my results normal for the book drop? Actually the book hitting the cyst on my finger hurt less than the actual cyst itself. If these results are normal, will it gradually go away? Should I hit it again? Thank you for any help you could offer.

I've never heard of the book used on a finger either. I have ganglian cysts in my wrists. I use the book probably twice a year but it isn't to pop them but to push them back down beneath the nerves. I agree with Sherry. Because of the location I would go back to the doc.

You would start with your primary doctor first. If your primary can't drain it remove it, orthopedic surgeon (one that specializes in hands) is the doc your want.
