Weird feeling in throat, gas?

Hi all.  I have felt like something is stuck in my throat all day, like possibly it is a burp yet I have burped and the sensation is still there.  I haven't had any acidic burning or anything, I just feel annoyed like my throat is closing.  I am not on any new meds so I don't know what this is... I have had it before but don't remember it lasting the whole day before, great.  Does anyone else have this?  What is it in your case?  Thanks.

I read in your signature..."had almost recto-vaginal fistula in 2004," you know fistulas are related to crohns and not UC (it's very rare, pretty much the only way a UCer or anyone eles that does not have CD can get a fistula is via injury)...now you mention the thing about your throat (as you likely know, CD can affect the entire GI tract from mouth to anus, including throat) UC is limited to the colon/rectom area....on occassion I have experiance almost identical throat issues that you describe with my crohns.

Back to the fistula...what exactly do you mean by "almost had a recto-vaginal fistula" from my understanding (I have crohns) you either have a fistula or you don't, it's pretty unheard of for a fistula to almost appear and then heal itself since it's usually the cause of an abcess (also related to CD and not UC)....I'm just wondering if CD may actually be what's going on with you and not UC.

It's a yucky feeling to have! I have something like that right now...acid-y burning, burping and gas though it's prob related to s/th i ate....
The GI track is one long tube, everything's basically connected and all these irritations and permanent residents (UC, Crohn's, GERD, Gastric/Acid Reflux, Lactose Intolerance) can be interrelated too.
I don't know what the tests are, but did you get tested for other GI things?

Pb4, that is very interesting that you have the same throat sensation and you have CD and it doesn't seem like anyone with UC has it or at least they didn't reply... :), I didn't feel any burning at all, it was an annoying "stuck" feeling, like when after taking a pill and it feels stuck, but I hadn't taken any pills that day, it was very annoying but not painful at all.

 Here is what happened about the "fistula": During one of my sigmoidoscopies, my GI and I saw a rectal ulcer tunneling towards my vagina, GI estimated it was 1 inch deep... Then after 3 months on Remicade, it was down to 1/4 inch... so that's why I say almost fistula, I guess I should change it to 1 inch deep ulcer... As for tests, I just had an upper GI xray to test for Crohn's a few weeks ago. If it comes back fine as I am guessing it will, I will try to get the Prometheus test and an Endoscopy test. My GI keeps saying he wants to take my colon out and I want to be certain I don't have Crohn's first. I have never told him about the throat thing. It has never bugged me as much as this time and I never thought of it. I will tell him next visit, though! I think by now he thinks I am bonkers! Oh well!

I've had that feeling before princess, I believe it's related to a little acid reflux. It really does feel like you have to burp or there's a pill stuck in your throat. I used to get it when I would eat something like too many peanuts or greasy food. Sometimes Tums can make it go away.

My guess is acid reflux as well. One of my worst symptoms of GERD is that can't burp, but need to feeling...

I suggest talking with your GI about it. Or trying Prilosec OTC to see if it helps.

Do you have any other GERD symptoms? Pressure in the chest? Heartburn?

I totally understand you not wanting to get your colon removed if you have CD instead of UC (which I really hate to say this but from what you describe, I feel that's a very likely possibility) however that said, there are plenty of CDers that have their colons removed and end up with a better quality of life even if CD ends up affecting the small bowels, which most likely happens because unfortunately that's the nature of CD, it will find some part of the GI tract to attack when one area has been removed. But rest assured people with CD that have their colon removed because it's so badly diseased do not typically regret it even if they have to still take meds for the CD affecting their small intestines.
