OK, so, this is what works for me, and it may be different for you, so you may have to mess around with it for a while.
I take 2 enemas at the same time. My docs thinking is that if you take 2, it forces the medicine deeper into the colon and it reaches more of my inflammation. There is really no need to taper off these enemas. I know they are a pain in the butt (pun intended), but they do help. If I feel stable, I will cut down to 1 a night. But if for any reason I feel crummy the next day or have increased BMs the next day, I go right back up to 2. Fortunately for me, I have great insurance and the cost of the enemas is not a problem, and it is WAY better than being stuck on prednisone. So, my advice to you would be to listen to your body and take the 2 enemas when you think you need them. I just went on vacation with my hubby and I just took them before we went to sleep. Better to have to lay in bed for a couple of hours (you have to sleep sometime) than have UC ruin your vacation. I have never tried to go completely off the enemas.....too scared of what could happen, so you will have to judge that for yourself. Sorry I can't answer that question for you.
As for the fatigue, I don't think that is due to the asacal, although I am no expert. I think it is you not being able to eat right and not feeling up to doing what you want to do. When I started to feel better, I noticed a marked increase in my energy. I went from missing 3 weeks of work to slowly getting into it. I went half days for almost 2 weeks after that, and then full time, then I started adding back exercise. The exercise makes a world of difference. I also added bee propolis to my supplements. I don't know if it is one thing or a combination of all, but I am unwilling to take anything out because I am scared I will relapse.
Best of luck, have a great vacation, and I hope you feel well soon.
