GENERIC COLAZAL ?

I have not posted in awhile but do read this forum daily. I have received many helpful tips and admire all of you for your knowledge on this DD. I was dx. with Pancolitis 3/2004. This was my first and only "Flare" (Thank God). I was originally placed on Colazal 3 tabs 3x a day. I was tapered down to 3 tabs 2x a day about 3 years ago and all is well. I just called in my med renewal and was told I would now be getting the "GENERIC" form of Colazal. I don't know the name of it. This change was due to ins. I assume there is now a Generic form of Colazal. My concern is that after all these years the change in med. will send me into a FLARE. Would appreciate any knowledge, experience or input anyone my have about this change.

Generic Colazal just came out. There is another post on it. I'll try to find the link for you. I had some constipation w/ it (maybe mental??) and had my doctor put me back on name brand. We just had to okay it w/ insurance.

It is way cheaper though which is awesome.

I had issues on the generic colazal as well. I got very loose stools with it. My doc put me back on the name brand as well. We just pay more of a copay for it.

I've been on the generic for almost two months. I can't tell the difference. Unless you're sensitive to one of the inactive ingredients in the capsule, you shouldn't have a problem. The actual drug (balsalazide) is the same in Colazal and the generic.
