Pred. induced acne. Successes?

New here. Thanks for all of the tips.
Daughter is struggling. 14 years old, freshman, just out of the hospital and back to school. UC, and on lots of prednizone 50mg, then IV, now 45mg.. Just started tapering, but the visuals are not pretty. Dermatologist at the hospital only gave Retin A. Gastro said no to topical antibiotics( and suspect that the oral antibiotics that she was on all last summer may have upset the bowel enough to start the episode). Day 3 of 6mp. Also 3x2 Asacol Any new side affects to look forward to? Just began Culterelle, and a low residue diet. What can she eat a lot of..she is so very hungry!? I did attend the Crohn and Colitis annual conference last Sat., so I am learning fast.
Does anyone have the magic bullet?

Just be careful with Retin-A, it really burned my face.  I only used a pea sized amount and it still made my face really red and flaky.  I never got acne from Prednisone, just horrible moon face.  I'm not sure if ProActiv will help her with acne but it might be worth a shot.  I developed bad acne on my chin last fall (not sure where it came from since I never had it before) and ProActiv completey cleared it up.  Good luck to your daughter, I'm sure it's really difficult having this disease at such a young age.

My friend who is a dermatology nurse recommended Vishy.  It is sold at CVS it is otc.

I use cetaphil face wash

vishy toner then the vishy zit creme both are like $15 each but last me 2 1/2 months.  However if I skip one night washing my face, I break out and it takes about a week to calm down again.  I do this at night when I get home from work and when I get up in the am.  Also if the vishy stops working for me I plan to try proactive.

I tried retin-a & tetracycline in high school it did nothing for me. 

I ended up going on accutane 3 years ago and had blemish free skin until the darn pred!

for what it is worth, the acne goes away after oyu get off the pred. I have pretty good skin, but broke out on pred, and then it went away once off pred.

maybe just get her some good concealer/make up, and remind her it is temporary. I know that is really hard, when you are her age, but I also know you don't want to throw in too many other drugs - not oral ones, at least - if you can get away with it. good luck.

"Proactiv" is one to consider as well.

Thanks all. Have a derm appt. tomorrow. Will do a micro-derm abrasion to get off some of the hard bumps. We have a closet full of the over the counter stuff, as she had some acne before the pred. Just a a whole new level now, with bumps on neck, back face etc...
Won't do any oral meds. She is on maximum pills for a kid.
