I went to the doctor for my biopsy results on Tuesday and everything came back normal, thank God. 

She did do a stool culture and it came back positive for c-diff.  It seems as though the c-diff is currently asymptomatic, but the dr. is very concerned about where I'll end up if the infection starts to rear it's ugly head. 

She precribed Flagyl to be taken for two weeks. 

Does anyone have any experience with c-diff?  Does is go away with one round of antibiotic?  Also, how could I have gotten this in the first place?  When I asked my doctor she said there is really no way to tell since it can come from multiple avenues. 

I also found out that I have to go for scopes once a year from here on in.

I had Cdiff eons ago. I can't remember much other then going to the bathroom 30x's a day and being on Flagyl (I think was the name of it). I believe I got mine due to antibiotic usage since I was always sick with bronchitis, sinus infections, throat infections - you name it I got it. I only had to take one course of treatment. Be sure to follow the directions of the Flagyl though and avoid the things that it says to avoid.

Hi Tara,

We just found out yesterday that Hailey has C Diff. They started her on 10 days of flagyl along with the probiotic florastor. We think she got it from a recent dose of antibiotic for a double ear infection or from last months hospital stay. She has symptoms though. Good things yours is asymptomatic and hopefully the flagyl will keep it that way. From my understanding, if the flagyl doesn't take care of it the next course of action is another round of flagyl or vancomycin.

Tara - glad to hear things checked out well, except the c-diff. When taking the antibiotic, I would suggest taking a probiotic to keep your good bacteria going. (Probiotic at least two hours before or at leasat four hours after the antibiotic.)

You've hit the 10 year mark - which means annual scopes. What fun :( Maybe you can make an annual "fun" weekend out of it - starting AFTER the scope of course.

I hope things continue on the up-and-up!

My whole story starts with c.diff. Somehow I developed it while I was pregnant even though I wasn't on any antibiotics. Flagyl didn't work for me and it took 3 longs months before it finally went away by taking Vancomycin and sacchromyces boulardii. After I had my baby I got c.diff again and nothing would make it go away. I was finally diagnosed w/UC. To this day I still battle c.diff, I get it about once a year. The symptoms are so similar that it's hard to tell when I start flaring if I have c.diff or if it's the UC.

My Husband got C-diff in the hospital stay before his current one.  After a few days of Flagyl he was fine.  He had some abdominal cramps but that was about it. The sorta good thing about it is now if you are ever admitted into the hospital you will get your own room just because you had it in the past.  My husband just had his colon removed (so obviously no more C-diff and the tests all came back negative before the colon departed) and they still wouldn't let him leave his room because he was on C-Diff "isolation".
