Blood from a hemmie or rectal flare?

Ok, I'm so confused at the moment.  I am doing pretty well with my Uc.  I go to the bathroom maybe 1-3 times a day, formed to semi.  I have no urgency and no pain upon going.  I still can "feel" when the stool is coming down though like it's scraping along something.  But it doesn't hurt - it's an odd feeling.  Anyway, I just found a hemmie the other day - first one in 16 years.  I am going to get some Prep H suppositories soon because it's starting to bother me (itching and burning).  Yesterday evening out of the blue I had a bm - which is a little unusual for me at this stage since I almost never have evening bm's anymore.  But there was a bit of blood on the stool and the same thing this morning.  Just a little amount of blood and it was bright red indicating that it's close to the rectum.  So I got to wondering, how do you KNOW if the blood is coming from a hemmie or a pending rectal flare??  Would Prep H stop the bleeding if it is the hemmie?

I can never tell. If I feel well, I wait it out for a couple of days using analpram (dr gave me a tons of samples for this) but they are for external hemmies. My UC blood is always bright red as well. Is your hemmie external? I think the prep H should help with swelling, itching, but not so sure about the blood. Good luck and sorry I can't be of more help

I've been wondering this myself ... I don't have any external hemmies but suspect internal ones and even before I was diagnosed w/ UC would have random BM's w/ blood on the tissue - always contributed it hemmies.

Mine is mostly internal. Why do hemmies bleed anyway? Does anyone know?

if it's flat b, compared to mucousy b, then I think that's from an H.

i use the wipes, cream and supp.

I hate pooping barb wire!

Arnt hemmys blood vessles that are protruding a bit form the lining of the colon? If so they probably bleed because of a small rupture of the vessel.

i won't be much help here since i don't know if my initial blood was from a hemmie or my first flare (since i hadn't been diagnosed at that point). so prep H suppositories and even the Rx supps (i think they have some kind of steroid in them) never stopped the bleeding.
but, as i said, i'll never know... maybe they did help the hemmie but then the lingering blood was a flare.

hope you can find your answer soon and no more mysterious evening BMs!

Treat it regardless....the suppositories will help. If it's a hemmie, it could still encourage a flare...because....UC tissue is right beside it.

Yep, gonna head to the pharmacy tonight to get some Prep H sups. Hopefully it's the hemmeroid that is bleeding and not the ole colon! I get the feeling it is though since I have no other Uc symptoms. Thanks all!

Might call the doc for some Anucort sups. Stronger steroid than OTC - used to treat hemis.

Sorry to hear you're having such a rough time! I bleed quite a bit sometimes and I have never had a hemi. I wish things could get easier for you!

Thanks PC but ya know what? I will take a little bleeding over a hemmie compared to a little bleeding from my Uc any day!! It's not that bad really, just slightly uncomfortable.

I'm in a similar situation.

Small ammounts of blood with a little presure when I'm sitting down on a chair or in the car.  Not really noticiable if I'm in the least bit distracted by the TV or something else. 

I'm really concerned because I'm supposed to be tapering my pred, but if it is the first sign of a flare then I could be in trouble.
