went to the doc after two nights of onesided neck pain..    he said i had probably pulled a muscle while sleeping... he also said i had a sinus infection

  I've been prescribed a muscle inflammatory.. a muscle relaxant.. and an antibiotic...   here are the names if you have heard of them..   Carisoprodol, Etodolac, and Cefuroxime 

He said if i don't eat with them they'll upset my stomach....   but i'm afraid they will anyways! I thought antibiotics spark a lot of flare ups in UCers.. right?  I don't know... should I be worrying as much as I am?

I always call my Gi when I am prescribed antibiotics. There are certain antibiotics that are worse for UC. I don't know too much, I ususally stick out illnesses. Others will probably chime in but I wouldn't take anything without confirming with a GI.

Carisoprodol, Etodolac, and Cefuroxime 

Carisoprodol is a muscle relaxant and also has pain-relieving properties. It shouldn't hurt you.

Etodolac in an NSAID, which we generally are advised not to take because they can cause GI bleeding.

Cefuroxime, of course, is an antibiotic. It does cause diarrhea and cramping in some people.

I'd suggest running these by your GI doc, taking Tylenol in place of the NSAID to see if that will give you adequate pain relief. If you're on a probiotic, consider doubling your dose while on the antibiotics, or if you're not currently taking one, consider starting one at high dose. This can help prevent flaring sometimes. Always take the probiotic at least four hours after your antibiotic dose.

definately worth a call into your GI. I always double up on probiotics when I am on antibiotics....at least ever since my GI told me they will help prevent C.diff infections. Another doc told me to eat a lot of yougurt while on antibiotics...same reason. I had a nasty sinus infection and refused to take antibiotics and washed my sinuses out with a netti pot (Walgreens has them) 2-3 times a day. Probably took longer to get over this way, but no nasty GI issues! It was worth it to me. Good luck and I hope you feel better.
