Well 6 weeks ago we were in remission and feeling great and today we are two days since my son's ileostomy.  He's got an amazing attitude and had the most wonderful surgeon.  He is trying to do everything possible to get out of the hospital. We are going totally stir crazy as we were in a full 8 days before they determined that surgery was the only option.  Thanks for all the support you guys offered and I wish you all the best of luck. I guess it's time to switch "conditions".

It is amazing how quickly things can change. I'm glad to hear that your son is feeling well post surgery. You're always welcome to post here - even now that he's UC free :) We love hearing how people do post-op.

Best of luck staying sane in the hospital! Movies, games, music, books - that's about all I can recommend... It's sure hard to stay entertained while sitting in one spot. Even things you normally enjoy get boring...

WOW....awesome he's feeling better!!! The road to healing takes time, and can be up and down, but his optimism will come in handy.

Keep us posted even though you'll be changing forums.

I'm also glad to hear your son is doing better. If you or him have any more questions feel free to join us ostomates over on the ostomy board! (I know I've seen you post there before about surgery questions). Remember to walk everyday! Oh, and ask your surgeon for things to look out for in terms of developing complications, something I wish I had done. Good luck with the recovery!

Lew, I am sorry any decision like this had to be made but I am very glad your son is on the mend. May he have a speedy recovery and a healthy life ahead of him! I know you started posting on the Ostomies forum.  I "lurk" there often because there is a chance that bratcat may need surgery in the future.  I will be reading your posts about your son's recovery (and improvement).

Dont try and push things too fast, your son is young and will heal quickly, but in the early stages of
recovery some unexpected events can happen. We spent about 30 days after my son failed colon
rescue meds. He was in such bad shape they had to fatten him up on TPN before they could
do the colectomy. Not fun to be sure but 8 years later he is fine with a pouch.
