sigmoidoscopy tomorrow

I just had a trip to the GI and he is wanting to do a sig tomorrow to see what it looks like "in there"...Last time I had one done, it about killed me...I don't know if it was from my colon being irritated or what, so I told him I had much rather have a colonoscopy anyday because of the sedation...So my good doctor said he would sedate me so I wouldn't feel anything...Thank goodness!!!! My question is "is the sedation for the sig the same as for the colonscopy"? I just want to make sure I don't feel anything this time...

I have never had a sig with sedation but I am wishing you good luck! Are you having someone drive you?

yes, my husband will be driving me. Driving home after that is a little too much excitement for me tongue

I can only get scoped (either sigmoid or colonoscopy) with full sedation because of the issues I have with perianal disease (CD), they can most definitely knock you out cold for a sigmoid, but you should clarify this with them before-hand.

It should be the same. Last time I had one (sig scope) I was not put totally out, but felt really good.

Yes, you can definitely be put ALL THE WAY out for the sig. I kept insisting that I had to know nothing and that I was hard to sedate. My GI knocked me out cold. I understand I slept afterward in recovery for 1 1/2 hours! For a 5 minute procedure! But you have to insist and insist and insist. Just because they don't usually do things a certain way does not mean that they can't

UC '76, that sounds pretty good to me yeah . I hope he will knock me out cold. The last time I had it done, as he got the scope a pretty good ways "up there", it hurt REALLY bad. I grabbed his arm by accident. I guess it was just reflex...I can tolerate pain pretty good, but for some odd reason, that was just a little too much for my sensitive colon.

I am having my first flex-sig in June to take more biopsies.  I think it's the same thing you are having.  I have to have someone drive me because of the sedation.  So, I think it's like when I had the colonoscopy, I was sedated but still awake and felt no pain at all.  Now I'm a little nervous that it will hurt after reading your message.  I wish you luck, definately ask for sedation.  Take Care, Bellski

bellski, I am sure if you are going to be sedated you wont feel anything like with the colonoscopy. I was just curious if it would be the same kind of sedation (awake but not feeling anything). As to what what people say, we shouldnt feel it. Some people say it didnt bother them without the sedation, but I dont want to go down that road again nono . I'll let you know how it goes today. i have it done at 3:00. I am used to eating as soon as I get up, but no food for me this morning. But at least I dont have to go 2 days without food like with the c-scope. I just dread those enemas. They make my butt burn mad

bellski, everything went good today. Dont remember much of anything, which was exactly what I wanted...Results were good also...Last year when I had a c-scope, I had inflammation and ulcers throughout my entire colon. Today showed only inflammation and ulceration in the distal sigmoid and the rectal area. That was good news!!! Better than being throughout the entire thing. My paper says I had normal mucosa in the descending colon and proximal sigmoid colon (whatever that is). So, instead of having to go on imuran like we had thought, he just gave me a rx for some steroid enemas (10 days worth) and hopefully that will knock it out!!!!! I go back in two weeks to see him and hopefully everything will be good.
