I have proctitis and it does not seem as severe as some cases I read about on the site, but I have been on a flare since November. I have not taken things serious as I have ignored taking canasa, ignored my diet, etc. I finally decided enough is enough. I got turned on to Kefir so I thought I would give it a try. I started drinking about 4-6 oz on an empty stomach in the morning. Then I eat oatmeal a couple hours later. I have cut out 90% of my sugar, no chocolate, no nuts, nothing greasy, no veggies, etc. I am taking 9 colazal (generic) a day and using canasa. My stools are not yet formed, but no blood, no mucus, no gas, etc. After a couple days I am feeling much better. I hope I am on the road to recovery.
My kefir scenario: I have enough grains where I take a quart size mason jar, add the grains, fill it up with raw milk (not pasteurized or homogenized), I then let it sit in the refrigerator for 3 days. I strain the grains out, put he liquid in a new jar and start brewing another batch. Over the next three days while the batch is brewing, I drink the liquid I removed from the first batch. When I drink it, I mix in about a tsp of pure maple syrup with each glass....this stuff tastes great!
My question is: How do you make your kefir? Is mine potent enough? I have found if I leave it on the counter for a day, it gets thick and sour quickly. Just curious if my method needs modification to get the most benefit from the kefir grains. How much do you drink per day and when do you drink it (before bed? morning?)
thanks...
