I have had this constant pressure in my rectum for about three days now...It's driving me crazy...Can anyone please explain this??? I have just started steroid enemas so I was thinking it could be from that...I just had a flex sig last week and my GI did say that it was very irritated in the rectum area...I just have never had this pressure before and it has only been happening since I started the enemas...Advice anyone?

Bk, that pressure is a result of rectal inflammation. I've never heard anyone complain of it occurring from the steroid enemas (usually they make it better!), but if it started with the enemas I suppose you could be reacting to something in the enema. You might try omitting the enemas for a couple of days. If it clears up, you'll know and can tell your doctor about it. If not, you'll ned to talk to your GI anyway because you may need something different to help with the inflammation.

Hi..I would suggest to continue to use the enemas for at least another week rather than stop them....if it gets worse, then it's possibly the med. Don't assume....I'd say it's more the inflammation than the med.

You should call the doc for some dicyclomine...it's an antispasmodic and will help with the spasming/feeling like your butt is going to fall out.

You might do better with 5ASA suppositories added in the morning with the steroid enemas used at night. Oh, are using the enemas at night or during the day?

Quincy, I am using them at night before bed...I have only been using them for three days and really haven't seen any improvement...How long do they take to work?

You should see at least some improvement in a week. What exactly are your symptoms other than the rectal discomfort/feelings/pressure..etc?

my symptoms are bleeding, mucus, and the feeling my butt is falling out tongue ...and another thing is that so many times throughout the day i really feel like i have to go to the bathroom and i get in there and .....nothing!!! i am goinig to continue to use the enemas for sure, at least until i go see my gi again on the 16th...i am going to give them time to work...if not, on to the next thing...if the pressure doesnt get better in a day or two i will call my gi and see what suggestions he has. i will mention the dicyclomine...oh, i forgot to mention the cramps...i do have some minor cramping but i can live with that since they arent too bad and few and far between...

In the past, sometimes I my rectal inflammation was so severe that it felt like my rectum was falling out too! :) At that time, I was on steroid enemas and I didn't start actually working until about a week and a half. One tip about the steroid enemas. When you insert it, try to reserve a little bit of the med. Squeeze it out as you withdraw it so the steroid can coat the rectum too. I've had to do this in the past because I was so sore.

I get that feeling too when I am flaring, I found the 500mg 5ASA suppositories helped within hours, and within a week, all inflammation disappeared. I also find the more I sit, the worse it is.

Everyone is different, it could take longer that one week before you see improvements...I'm a fan of cortifoam myself, but even it can take a while to kick in, it's different for everyone and it can be different each time around for the same person too...I've had cortifoam work quickly and slowly, it just depends on the severity of the flare in the rectom.
