Good morning to everyone .. I am katerina 30 to 31 .I have two wonderful children ..a boy 28 months and a baby girl 10 months .. and of course a very supportive and loving husband ..I was diagnosed pan colitis 2 months ago .. I took some severe medicines for back ache and the result was diarheea and blood ..I thought it was hemorhoids since I have this problem from the age of 15 but after 2 labors things became worse ..

Anyway ,  I now take medrol 16mg ( I used to take two pills now I take one and next week the doctor will check how I am doing in order to stop also slowly the morning pill , I also take salofalk 6 per day ) ..

I dont eat salt at all because of the steroid and no sugar one month now ..

What do you eat every day ? like breakfast for example ..?

do you drink coffee?

what do you certainly avoid ..

Sorry if my English are not so good ..I am from Greece .. and sorry if I do not visit a lot because I do not have too much time because of the babies ...

For breakfast, I eat corn flakes or rice pops with a little milk for breakfast. I sometimes also have some soft fruit (peeled and stewed if it is a hard fruit like apple) with a greek yoghurt.

I only drink coffee once a week now as it is one of the few common foods in my diet that irritate my colon.

thank you for your reply ...I dont really know what to expect from here and on ..I read many things that scare me ... I did not yet had those severe things I read here and still I feel down sometimes ..

Welcome to HealingWell, Katerina. One idea is to keep a food diary, writing down what you eat each day. Then watch for the next one or two months to see if you have trouble every time you eat a certain thing. Food bothers some of us a lot, others very little.

I hope you're feeling better soon. It must be really difficult to be sick and try to take care of two young children!

Thanks for that link, Severin. I just realized why I can eat blended soups like carrot-ginger (boiled and put through a food processor until smooth) when I'm flaring even though many posts state that you should avoid veggies while in a flare. (Peeled veggies are soluble fiber & beneficial while the peels are insoluble fiber and detrimental for UC.)

Hi Kapama, that is unfortunate that you problems were cause by strong meds.  They probably stripped all the beneficial bacteria from your colon and now you have diahrea.  You definately need to go and find a good live probiotic and start replenishing your colon with these bacterias which were lost. Its something you should take daily even when your symptoms improve.

As for food I eat puffed rice every morning or a  rice type of cereal, I find corn and wheat cause more diahrea for me so I try to avoid if possible.  I use Soy milk, and drink tea I use to drink coffee but after I cup I was having major diahrea so no more coffee.  I avoid dairy except if it comes from a goat or sheep for some reason my body can digest those types better.

If something is causing you problems its best to avoid it all together.
