Does anyone know which meds are ones you need to be more careful about being in the sun?

Bratcat is on asacol, 6-mp, remicade, and 25 mg prednisone.  Which of these are the most problematic with the sun. We know she has to be careful. She always wears a high SPF sunscreen. She isn't purposely going into the sun to get some color (although she really could use it) but just being outside helping in the yard or walking around. She got more pink than she normally does.

3 out of 4 for sure.....all cause photosensitivity...maybe the Asacol as well, but haven't checked it out.

I'm not a sun person, but would do a high sunscreen if I were forced to be out in the sun .

Some sunscreens are better than others....a combined physical as well as chemical barrier work well.

You could do the research on which would work better.

Since being on 6mp, I found that I burn much easier if I forget the sunscreen. A week or so ago, I burnt while on the boat (I know, bad me - I forgot the sunscreen!) and my thighs got sunburned. I ended up with water blisters for a burn that I didn't even consider that bad. So please have her be careful. And have her put on the sunscreen 30 minutes before she heads out and reapply often.

Personally I haven't noticed any difference in the sun BUT I put on a super generous amount of at least 30 spf before I go into the sun (say the pool). On a regular day I use body lotion that has a built in spf of 15.

The Imuran/6MP for sure! I totally forgot about the add'l sun sensitivity until Q reminded me. I'm using at least a 45 SPF and still getting burned. Sigh...

Just talked with the doc - Asacol has skin sensitivity as well. What fun...

Barrier sun screens....they'd be titanium oxide, zinc oxide. Do the research. The burns you get today will/can haunt you when you're older.

i never had any trouble on any of those, but what did happen while i was on the pred was i got these odd spots on my neck and chest. it was the pred reacting with the sun, and my silver necklace. Mainly it was the pred, i had them other places, but they were darker and there were more of htem where my necklace was.
so be careful about that.

I've been on 6MP for a while and never had any sun sensitivity. I've actually been burning way less than when I was younger, too! I was out in the sun a lot last summer and never had any problems. I know that everyone is different; but this is just my experience with it. I was never warned about sun sensitivity by my doctor, though I know they often leave out that kind of stuff.

Thank you for the info. about Asacol causing sun sensitivity, dakota -- another thing none of my doctors told me. IFor the past year or so, my eyes seem to have a really hard time adjusting to going outside and coming back in, even if it's not all that sunny outside. It seems to take me a much longer time to adjust...I have no idea if this is the same thing as sun sensitivity or not. Sorry if this is off topic.

Since I have started taking 6-mp in the last year, my eyes have been much more sensitive to light. I have had to have the lighting decreased around my desk at work or else I get a pretty bad headache.

I work in a Dermatology Hospital..

I deal Mainly with Kidney Transplant patients who use Azathioprine and Prednisolone long term. I deal with them because they tend to get skin problems i.e skin cancers after being on treatment long term.

I myself am on Azathioprine and use SPF 50 from April til October and also wear hats when out in the sun !! also try and avoid the sun from midday til evening !!

Trust me its best to stay out of the sun if possible, use high factor sun block and also wear hats if on Azathioprine or Prednisolone.

It is safe if you take pre-cautions.
