Can dysplasia be present in a healthy looking colon?

I really need to just relax and wait for my results, but I thought I'd see what you all think.  My colonoscopy a few months back showed severe inflammation and that is when I was diagnosed with UC (Ulcerative proctitis) but the report thought it saw dysplasia too.  Couldn't be sure through all of the inflammation.  Now, Two days ago, I had a flex sig, and my colon (rectum) looked normal.  The doctor was so happy and so was I.  My question is, do you think I could have dysplasia even though there is no inflammation?   He took what seemed to be a lot of biopsies this time.  Let me know your thoughts.  I just get nervous waiting for the results.  Thanks, Bellski

Try to relax about the biopsies. The majority of patients who develop UC as adults never get any malignancy. My gastro, who subspecializes in IBD treatment, says that looking for dysplasia is like pursuing a needle in a haystack. A lot depends on the cytologist's experience. Take the best possible care of yourself from diet to meds, vitamins, rest & exercise in proportion-- you'll likely do very well. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Many Doctors question the significance of dysplasia anyhow. It's not an exact science.
